Well, she arrived two nights ago. After trying in vain to get a setup to take with the stock strings, I sky-hooked them into the nearest trashcan, and slapped on a set of Ernie Ball Slinky Mediums. Because I thought the stock bridge looked a little chintzy, I also put on a MIM Fender bridge I had tucked away in a drawer.
Initial thoughts? Pretty damn good, actually! The tuners are a little suspect (they sound like a haunted house's floorboards while turning them), but I'm pretty sure they are partially plasti-chrome. I'm quite sure this was done to save weight to avoid neck dive. Well, that was only partially successful. She dives for sure, but it's definitely not a deal breaker.
She sounds great, with a wonderful Jazz bite. I'm pretty sure I'll be keeping the pups stock. After the strings were replaced, I was able to get the action pretty low without any noticable fret buzz. The fretwork also is pretty decent, and yes, the inlays are real! Also, I happen to really like the Ursa headstock on this one for some deranged reason....
Enough of my blathering. I should mention that the bass looks Sonic Blue in my pics, but is closer to a seafoam green IMHO in person. The last couple pics have it next to my seafoam green Jazz. Enjoy!
