The Fender will probably be easier to sell when you decide to move up to an even better bass in a few years.

i think a peavy cirrus bxp might be the best buy for a new bass in that price range.
I would look for a used MIA Fender or something.I sold mine (long story,needed money) and it sold for $600.00 at GC.It was in almost mint condition.
