I would look for a used MIA Fender or something.I sold mine (long story,needed money) and it sold for $600.00 at GC.It was in almost mint condition.

+1; used American-made can be had for $600, and will have better resale value, too. Used rocks!

id say the spector would be the way to go. a million times better then most mim fenders out there. the warwicks are nice too

and i dunno im not a fan of shecter at all

My thoughts are:

1. Get Bartolini's for the squier as well as a nice bridge (maybe schaller, BAII, etc.)

2. Get a really good used amp (I am partial to Eden)

You can get a Fender Deluxe Active Jazz bass (solid colors) for $599.00 new. You could probably get it for less if you shop around. I've had mine for 4 years and love it. I upgraded it and now its even better.

I HIGHLY recommend the Spector Legend 4. I have owned mine since the spring and I LOVE it!!! It feels great. I got mine for $800 so under $600 is a great deal. A Spector Legend is probbably the best bass on the market in its price range. It is a proffessional level bass for a low price, so you won't have to upgrade to another bass for a while.
