I'm currently looking to swap out my krueger head for a new tube driven head. I'm playing on a carvin IC5 out of an ampeg 8x10 stack with a 1001 RB II on top and i'm getting some weird distortion sounds on the low notes even at low volume. I adjusted the action to make sure the B string wasn't touching the pickup and zero'd out the eq and still heard it. I'm thinking that the krueger is the result cause an 8x10 should be able to handle the low B, right? Anyway i'm thinking maybe a sunn or something comparable. I have a decent budget so I can explore a few options. Just want something that sounds really good and CLEAN. thanx in advance for the advice.

I would suspect the cab long before I suspected the head... You have to do as jellymax says, try different combinations of basses, heads, and cabs until you know what the problem is...
Make sure the Contour knob is at 0, the 4/5 string switch is not pushed in (no boost). Pre-amp gain is set correctly. Boost knob is around 3/10. The Ampeg 810 is a good cab, but your definition of "handling a B string" is much different than everyone else. The 810 starts rolling off the low end at 58hz. The 810 can definitly give you 100hz and higher really efficiently and give you good body for the 5th string overall. Don't expect subwoofer low end out of the 810 for your 5th string.

+1 to the above. The rig you have should be more than adequet for any low B string bass. Further investigation needed, and the eq tips from Gearhead17 are spot on.
the 1001RB is a quality piece of gear used by TONS 5 string-wielding pros. I'd look every other variable before you arbitrarily decide it's the head.
great head, it's your cab. maybe you are clipping the preamp/eq somewhere if you are goosing the bass by itself or via the contour. more likley, your cab may not be able to do a fiver or it has some damage that you don't notice with a 4 string that becomes apparent with the B string.
Not sure how "knob savvy" you are with the GK 1001RB-II. Suggest looking at the manual, setting up for "ROCK" and then take things gradually from there.

Yeah, I also have the 700rb-II, and love it - I play a fair amount of my gigs on a 5'er, and although my Mesa PH610 does handle a low B much better, I've also played a fair amount of gigs with a 5'er and the 700rb-II through an SVT810e and not had any problems - those cabs were all pretty healthy, but even then it was obvious that they couldn't put out as much low end as my PH610...

Take your 1001rb and bass with you to GC and audition cabs, try another 5 string. If you are clean with another cab then you saved lugging the 810 around to find the trouble. You may find a cab you like better in the process, unless you just have to have the "look" of the 810? 
The rig on the left is what I typically gig with - and it handles a low B very, very well - although the SVT-410HLF on the right does, too...
