New bass, or shine up the old one?

So currently I have an old yamaha BB200 (made in 1980 I believe) and it works fine. I have $150 in store credit at a music store. I can't decided between a) pitching in some extra money and buying a new bass, which would be the ibanez GSR100, or b) buying new tuners (lighter ones which will hopefully help with neck dive), strings, and having it set up nicely. Whichever I do, it will be what I use until I can afford a $600 ish five string, which would be in a few years at least. I have the extra money to drop, but I'd rather not if I don't have to. Just wondering what your opinions are on whether or not a brand new bass will be a huge improvement over the old yamaha or not.
