New Bass Player - Practice Amp Advice Requested

25 watt bass amp - $40 (06040)

I picked up the 1x15 Acoustic combo amp at a local pawn shop for 100.00. It was in perfect condition, in fact if it was ever even used it couldn't have been used much. None the less I'm very happy with it for a simple practice amp.

Okay, so now you have read about 306 different amps, and you haven't heard any of them.
Best advice, IMHO, go visit a local music store, bring somebody along with some experience, and try out the amps you see and start of from there.
Once you've got an amp and had some practice, you can develop your gear.
This is also the most fun option!

i would look at a small peavey max ,,,,,,and if you had the money i would look at the new rumble 100 or GK mb112 ,,both of these are small and light and would get you from practicing to your first gigs , which after all is the point of all the practice !! ??

Another "other" vote for the Ampeg BA108. The older model (non-tiltable cabinet) has a volume control for the aux input, which is really convenient when playing along with a computer, cd player, smartphone or tablet. Very nice tone for an 8", and you can always plug headphones into it for quiet practice.

Really depends on local craigslist. I see an acoustic b100 here for 150usd, a peavey tnt 115 for 170usd, ampeg b115 for 200usd, etc. My early mistake with craigslist was to search for "bass guitar" or "bass amp" and filter on title. Amazing how many people don't actually put proper titles on their craigslist postings.

... I am not looking to ever really gig and it would really only ever be used for in my room by myself. When I jam it's just with my brother and 2-4 friends i've known since grade school. It's very casual and the need for this purchase to ever "gig" is nonexistent. ....

I hear you. Clear and concise on your current needs.

The other suggestions you have received have been very good.
I want to throw something else out there for you to consider.
I don't know how many times I have heard "I only need a 10 watt amp to practice turn into ...Oh man, we are ready to gig now.

The 10 version would be in line with what you are looking for but the 15 would be now and future. It won't be long before you or your mates are saying "We got to get a drummer, dude."

I'd spend a bit more and go for the old model Fender Rumble 30 that is tilt back. I've got one of these coming in next week to go in another room for practicing.
