New bass player

Hello everyone! New bass player here up in Washington. I picked up my very first bass back in November, a 97 Ibanez SR400 and a Fender Rumble 25 amp, and have been teaching myself how to play here and there. I've been able to learn a few songs so far, RATM koRn Chevelle, and much to the annoyance of my wife and kids, my sad attempts at whatever theme song is playing on TV at the moment. I've been lurking around for a while now, enjoying the rig pic thread and finally decided to jump in on the fun. Looking forward to learning lots here. Thanks for having me!

Welcome from Sunny Arizona!!
A friend has that Rumble 25. Sounds pretty great for practice, and that overdrive is a nice touch!
I have the Rumble 40, and find it quite acceptable gigging small venues and open mics! Sounds great with a guitar as well!!
Love the pic- sweet looking Ibanez!!

I am actually quite impressed with mine what with it having that little 8 inch speaker. It will rattle the walls a little if I turn it up! Of course now I want more.

No I couldn't do that, yet. Like I said I'm still learning.
That is why I pointed you to fake chord. Knowing the chords you now can pound roots to the beat and play in most good ole boy bands.

Find the root note of the chord (name of the chord) in the first 5 frets of your bass neck. Where is the C note? OK pound C's to the beat of the song... When a new chord comes active pound it's root note.

When that get's old add a 5. The 5th of a root note is found up a string on toward the bridge two frets, or if there is a string below your root, it's 5th will be on that same fret. C's 5th is the G. Visualize this pattern.

R-R-R-R or R on the first beat and the 5th on the 3rd beat. The 8 is up a string same fret from the 5th. R-5-8-5 will let you play a bunch of bass. Yes as the chords change, change your root note...

When this flows we will get into the other stuff. Sing the lyrics under your breath so you know when a new chord is coming up - now play that new chord's root. Not a step for a stepper.

Have fun and welcome to the bottom end.
