Ordered a Highway One (2008) sunburst that had some nice patena to it...but then got the ebay notice that I had won an auction on a '75 American Vintage Reissue Jazz Bass. I was the only bidder and got it for a very good deal (same price as the HWY One...and the HWY one was a good deal).

The '75AV had a daphne blue re-spary of nitro (body was stripped and it's a good paint job). It also had a rout under the pick guard for a 9v battery and came fitted with EMJ J's.

I am so darn impressed with this '75 that the HWY One is going on the chopping block. Being such a traditional old fart, I had no idea that a Ash body, maple neck, active elctronic EMG equiped bass with pro steel round wounds would float my boat, but man it sure does.

That is a beautiful sunburst!

NICE!

I recently got this American Original 70s Jazz bass and it's GLORIOUS. Best jazz I ever touched by miles, extremely similar to yours if not identical except for the radius.

My bass has the same electronics as the 75 would have stock. You can get them pretty cheap and restore it to factory, along with a factory 70s guard and thumbrest. That's what I would do, anyway.

Great looking bass!
If the EMG's didn't sound sp darn good I was was going to go the route of putting a set of Lindy Fralin's I picked up used. Apparently wound for "that 70s vibe" and also splurge on a period correct harness.

I had an American Original P bass and can attest that they were a great model. How is your neck? Chunky?

That is one amazing Jazz, right there. The black PG works so well.

Yea it's chunky but I love it. When a jazz neck is too petite front to back it hurts my hand.

The Daphne blue, with the black pickguard , is very nice.
The Sunburst is very very very nice.
Personally I would keep both. Always nice to have a passive and an active, two different sounds. I have put flatwounds on my passive Jazz to make sure they don't overlap.
