New basspod XT vs original

Hi,
I want to get a bass pod to for recording.
I just want to get a decent sound without too much fuss.
I can get a used original bass pod (kidney shaped one) for about half the price of the new XT version. Would I be ok with that, or is the XT a must have?

In my experience with the guitar version,s the XT version is far superior to the old version. IMO, you'd be better off going for the XT version.

I think the main thing that is attracting me to the XT is that it has usb out for direct digital recording.
The only thing is, I can't find much info on how that works. I'm using Cubase VST 5.1 so does anyone have any info on how this setup would work? i.e. does the pod have some kind of plugin software that would record what I play & output back into the pod or through a vst channel?
I'm a bit confused on this.

Shouldn't Cubase detect the pod and record everything that comes out of it?

I've owned both and the XT is a far superior product with much more versatility and ease of use.

The USB direct recording feature is also fantastic. Essentially you load a driver and the pod becomes an input device sort of like a sound card with 2 in, 2 out. You just go to your recording software of c hoice and make two mono tracks, the Left in is the Modeled track and the Right in is the DI.

Works like a champ.

So I'm assuming that, say if recorded bass onto tracks 17&18 & selected the pod I/O for those channels, my bass will now just playback direct through the pod? So I win back a VST channel too?
