OK, heres a short review.
Construction: FLAWLESS!! Status' have some of the most beautiful lacquer finishes that I've ever seen. The back of the neck has lacquer too but it's as smooth as butter. The cocobolo top has great figuring and is a deep natural burgundy in color with a thin maple veneer between it and the walnut back. I opted for 18.5 mm string spacing so it's very comfortable as I am used to wide spacing. All black hardware on this one brings out that sinister graphite neck which is so solid that it feels like a neck-through. The bass balances very nicely even though I thout it would be a lttle neck heavy due to it's asymetrical design but it wasn't at all. The neck pocket is nice and snug, there is a small gap onder the treble heel side as this wasn't designed to be a six but Rob worked it out great.
Sound: I plugged it up flat into a Yorkvill X800 tube head and an SWR 6x10 cab. Right away this bass commanded respect!!! I couldn't believe how much power the pickups and preamp kicked out, almost illegal!! Dailing in a little bass had the wall rattling and the tone was nice, tight and punchy. I must say I was a little taken by it. Dailing in a little treble added that crisp glass-like clarity and it was never brittle or nasal sounding. The magic though, came from engaging the mid frequency selector, that's when the endless tones started to manifest. In the up position was that deep growly Mark King like thump, I usually will nudge the blend nob a little toward the neck pup for slap. THIS BASS IS A SLAPPERS ABSOLUTE DREAM COME TRUE!!! Jazzbassers will get a kick out of the switch in down position with the treble slightly cut and the bass boosted, this is where that vintage bass tone comes to life and adjusting the mid control you can go from a loose to more tight response ala' a great commpression type effect. I did a couple of studio dates with it already and it really has an awesome presence in the mix, Overall this bass is everything I ever dreamed it would be and it's money very well spent.
