New Birdsong Models

That's really my only point. Beat him at his game if you will (albeit at 3x the price), but then don't be an ass on top of it.

I am not accusing him of doing any such thing, I am merely stating in my opinion, how it is coming off like.

Either way, I wish (;)) him well with this new model.

Not saying it was, hence my post right above yours. I'm not accusing or assuming anything, design or otherwise, merely suggesting how it comes across, and, in keeping with your sentiment about the control plate.

The fact that many off this board know nothing about Wishbass not withstanding, I'll say it was in fact your comment on the control plate that made me read his descriptors for the model on his site with a Wishbass bias. But with that in mind, it certainly reads (to me) like at least a knowing jab to Wishbass.

"Professional on your side of the bench because for under a grand you get a hand made boutique bass that doesn't need you to fix & finish it!"

and

"...REFINED with the attention to detail only found in the craftsmanship of experienced professional hands."

Here is part of a response to comments made on the Wishbass Club Talkbass thread when Wish fans questioned the intent of the Embrace description...

"...a few tongue in cheek barbs about fit and finish should come as no surprise to anyone considering the rub Steve [Wishnevsky] puts on us "Boutique" makers. I doubt he's offended and if he is he can call me personally."

It's definitely intentional. Who else is Birdsong referring to when describing/comparing the Embrace to a bass that doesn't need to be fixed or finished? And, why would Birdsong need to do that? Again, it's about integrity and respect. Anyone familiar with Wishbass knows Wish doesn't spend much time on finishing his instruments, and some need minor adjustments. He often sells them unfinished to allow the buyer an opportunity to work with the instrument...to be a part of the process. I've personally ordered custom Wishbasses that I designed myself by sending Wish a template or drawings with dimensions. How cool is that? And, they turned out to be very nice - all for $400 or less. Though Wish may not agree with boutique builders who set their prices at a point that is out of reach of most blue collar folks, he would never bash Birdsong. For some reason, the Birdsong flock is taking it personal.

I think it looks interesting. I don't know anything about Wishbass, so I missed the jabs (if there were any).

At any rate, it looks like an interesting bass with a minimalistic vibe (almost primitive). One minor thing that put me off a little was the ends of the strings sticking out of the bottom of the bass. It has to be an oversight. I can't see any reason for designing it that way, but I could be wrong.

Yes, that was my one any only *gripe* as well...especially for a bass touted as being budget friendly-pro. I've seen "far lesser" basses with fully recessed thru-body option.

You guys should read Scott's comments on the Wishbass thread. I think he clarified a lot of the points being discussed here, and he sounded quite sincere while at it. From what I've come to know about him from our brief encounters, and many telephone conversations, Scott is a very down to earth guy, very supportive of other craftsmen and builders. If there were any jabs, I think they were "tongue in cheek", and not meant in a derogatory way.

I think the Embrace looks just fine as-is. I'll request Scott to do some minor changes on mine, as the recessed string holes, v/s ferrules, headstock face in ebony (to match fretboard) or mesquite (to match body), control plate in ebony, and all-black hardware. Scott can build it to your specs, for a price.

I respectfully disagree. As you request upgrades and modifications to your 8th Anniversary Embrace, please request that the Embrace website description be edited to have no direct or indirect mention of Wish's work. Scott may be a cool, down-to-earth guy, but he sure is revealing an arrogant attitude as he celebrates eight years of work. Tongue in cheek comments are meant to be humorous and should be communicated directly to the individual - not publicly displayed on a website without the individual's knowledge. The right thing to do is to edit the website description. I follow Scott's website and enjoy his weekly commentary. I think he and his Wingfeather Workshop team are producing amazing instruments. Why sucker punch another builder, for whatever reason, when you're trying to grow a respectable business? There is some integrity lost in this situation.

I am waiting on hy 5 H49!!! - [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]
does anyone have any Hy 5 soundclips? I can only find 1 on you tube. Brady - you guys need to do some you tube videos like veillette does - I think it is a great sales tool!

I love the the C2 and I LOVE body design of the embrace, but for me the design of the headstock is a deal breaker :(

Nice Hy5! I wonder if they will build a 6-string version one day?

As someone with no dog in the fight (I don't own a Birdsong or a Wishbass) I think you are taking this way too seriously. The site never mentions Wishbass by name. Many companies make subtle digs at their competitors. Have you ever seen the commercial with the Pepsi driver and the Coke driver? The Coke driver prefers the Pepsi and won't give it back to the Pepsi driver, then they fight over it? This is pretty standard advertizing stuff. I'm not at all offended by it, and I don't think it says anything about the integrity of Birdsong.

Your outrage seems a little over the top.

Why would you be offended by it? You don't own either. I happen to be a friend of Wish and I have purchased from both builders.

I sent an email to Birdsong over a week ago expressing my interest in buying an Embrace.

What response did I get?

None at all.

Now that tells me a lot about their professionalism. Especially during a worldwide recession.

We know very little of these instruments here in Europe. There are no sound samples yet. I'd started a thread over here on Basschat forum to enquire locally.

When I update my Basschat thread with this info, I can't imagine it doing wonders for Birdsong sales into Europe.

Disappointed. But willing to forgive.
