New Build 34" 4 string fretted

Since I was working on the headstock on my other project I decided I would glue up the headstock for this neck. Used a piece of tape to keep from slip and slide.

Started this project again this past week. Got everything glued up and cut out for the body. I am currently working on the fretting and shaping of the neck.

I put some small pieces of wenge with a piece of veneer on both edges of the body.

I got the neck about done being fretted just needs the bevel on the edges. I got the neck pocket routed and the neck fits like a glove. I also got the control cavity routed out. This is what I've got so far.

Today I will do the pickup cavities, make wedge for neck angle, rough shape wings. Also be ordering the parts for this today. Don't want to end up stuck at the very end like my rainbow build. Hardware list should be something like sperzel tuners, jworrell pups, neutrik jack, and a wood bridge I'll make similar to the one in the How To section. http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=337912

Just for the hell of it I have been throwing around the idea of going super simple with the electronics. One volume or even just straight wired to the jack. The thought of how good some wenge or ebony knobs could look on the red body makes me think maybe another time. More pics to come I plan on making my third day off in a row count! :bassist:

Got back into this build after work today a little bit. Worked on some of the shaping. Also worked on a wedge for the neck pocket and a little bit on the headstock.

I got some trouble here. Stupid mistake not sure exactly how I'm going to fix it.

I wanted to carve a big scoop on the bottom there but its not gonna be possible now. :bawl: O well more pictures of this bass coming soon.

Today I got back in the garage working on this bass. I spent some time thinking about how I would fix my mistake above. I decided to just cut that wing off with the bandsaw rejoin the sides and glue it back flush to the bottom of the middle section.

Then I did a little shaping and came out with this.

I also did some work on the headstock today.

Got quite a bit done this morning. I started off doing alot of shaping to the body. After I cleaned up the mess around the neck pocket I glued up the neck.

This should set me up for a pretty good weekend of shaping and sanding. Also needs a pickup cavity.

It's definitely is nice when you can swing a mistake in your favor. To be honest I think I like this better than what I had in mind originally.

It turns out I neglected this thread. I am now back in New Hampshire again and finally have a real shop to work out of. Me and my father split a two floor workspace its half a machine shop half woodworking. Paradise basically. Anywho here are some new pics.

Those knobs are just there until I make some redheart knobs. God they are hideous.

I recently took this thing apart and thinned the neck down and flattened the neck a little bit. All sanded up ready to go just needs to be refinished and I'll have it professionally photographed. As far as pickups and whatnot it ended up getting just cheap pickups i found in a jackson i had laying around. Despite being the cheapest bass I ever made parts wise this thing plays like a dream. No neck dive at all hands free balance. Easily my best build yet as far as playability is concerned.
