New cab day

I went to the annual warehouse sale of a local music company today and walked out with an SWR Son Of Bertha for $250 brand new with the tags and plastic still on it. :D

As many have commented, SWR seems to be out of vogue and they apparently couldn't move these at retail.

Violating the wisdom of not mixing speaker sizes, I've stacked it under my Super Redhead. So far, so good... :bassist:

Darn good score on that SOB! Conventional wisdom forbids a 15 with a 410 because of the power handling mismatch but a 15 with a 210 is sometimes OK, sometimes not, and your ears are the final judge. Congrats and enjoy!

It's an experiment really. I know it's an 8 ohm cab and the Readhead's 2x10 cab is 4 ohms. But I kept reading in the manual that it was one of the recommended extension cabs for the Redhead and I couldn't leave it sitting there at that price.

Played about an hour through the pair yesterday and it does fill out the sound to my liking. There is obviously a volume mismatch from the different impedance but I have some more experimentation to do before I make a final decision.

One interesting thing to do is use the toggle on the front of the Redhead to defeat the internal speakers and play it as a 1x15 only experimenting with the horn settings on the SOB. It becomes a totally different amp.

Indeed nice score! Sure many would say the 4x10 and 1x15 is a setup from hell, however it works for some. The 2x10 and 1x15 is a little more acceptable setup by many, however some will also say it is not ample. But that is just a different strokes for different folks type of thing, if it works for you then rock the s*** out of it!
