New Cabinet! Now I need a head... and ideas

So, a friend of mine (plug for Kevin Garrido [email protected]) just built me a groovy little cabinet for a 10" Eminence BP102 driver. See pics- I'm digging it.

The only head I have is an old GK Backline 250 and I'm looking for something new that would be a good match for the cab. I'm going to bring the cabinet to my favorite shop this weekend to try out some gear and thought I'd get some recommendations.

Looking for suggestions for maybe 3 or 4 very different sounding heads so I can get an idea as to the range of sounds out there.

FWIW, I play a Lakland DJ4 w/J-retro. I'm all over the place with what I like to listen to and play. Willie Nelson, Fugazi, The Meters, Wilco, Sabbath. Yeah, I know- all over the map. I'm not playing live currently, mostly playing/practicing at home, occasionally jamming, and recording.

Would prefer a smaller unit, not over-clogged with unnecessary features. Simplicity is a good thing.

What would be fun to try out? Any heads you TB'ers have been impressed with recently?

i could not find a 110 cab i wanted so i built my own using that same speaker. i was thinking of the tc electronic bh 250 head to go with it but decided my rh750 works fine with the little cab. i just have to be careful.:D
your cab builder should have used a recessed jack plate for your speakon connector so it does not stick out like that. nice looking cab though. would be cool to see it without the grill mesh on. is it ported?

What was the goal of the cabinet (how is it voiced)? I would probably stick to accentuating the cab. I have an Epifani UL2-310, for example. It has a natural mid-scoop to it. Rocking mid-heavy amps through it, like an SWR or an Acoustic, aren't really the best match.

i have never compared the gk mb200 to the tce bh250 side by side but at the same price for the two heads you get a built in tuner, tone print and a mute switch on the bh250 plus a little more headroom. also the gk is 200 watts @4 ohms. the speaker is 8 ohms. so would that be 100 watts and 8 @Ohms. the tce is minimum 4 ohm load so not sure if that means 250 watts @ 8 or 4 ohms? or would it be 125 watts @ 8 ohms?

Cool. I'll check out the bh250. How do you like the Bp102?

He put in the jack plate I bought, so that was my bad. Here it is with no grill:

Awesome looking cab by the way. I would suggest looking into the GK MB series. Overall they're just really great small sized amps. A MB200 would be fine for that size, but you might want to get a size up in case you upgrade your cab to something larger. Carvin makes a BX250 which would be a good size also. I haven't played that one, but I have played it's big brother the B2000 and that thing sounded great. Carvin makes some great gear

something in the 400-500 watt range @ 4 ohms = 200-250 watts @ 8 ohms.
my head is 375 watts @ 8 ohms which is overkill for my 110 200 watt @ 8 ohm cab but it is loud. i do have to be careful.

It's not always an even split like that but I can't find what it runs at 8 ohms anywhere. 125 watts is probably close.

The D800 gets a lot of love on this forum. I'm with you- simple = good. Good suggestion- it's now on the list!

Also- on the voicing question, the F3 is +/- 48.2Hz and about -6db at 40Hz from Kevin's WinISD number crunching... does that help?

Might be revealing my noobness on voicing here...
