I imagine that bass plays great. I know I will never buy a Carl Thompson, but if I ordered one, I would have Thompson place the pickup closer to the bridge than is normal for most of his basses.

I'll let the CT experts comment. There is a relatively 'plain' older used one on his site for sale for $5,000, so that should give you some idea of the cost of a new one

$1,000 per string (minimum of 4 strings) down payment to get in line for a build, the final price is negotiated as you work out the specs when it's your turn for the build. That's what I last heard a few years ago, anyway, anyone who's actually had a CT build should be able to correct me.

If you have to ask how much a Carl Thompson bass is you probably can't afford one. I'm not asking how much they sell for. I can't afford one and am definitely not willing to wait the time it takes for one to be built. I watched the video, btw. A lead singing bass player always puts a proud smile on my face.

I have a buddy that just got his CT a couple of months ago. I'm thinking he waited about 3-4 years and spent right about $7K for a 6-string.

Base price is about $4500 for a 4 string, $5500 for a 5 string, and $6500 for a 6 shipped with a gig bag, but those are seriously just estimates. My 6 String CT was a fair bit more than the base price, but it's got a ton of extras. If you're serious about getting one, and want the real details, you're best off just calling Carl and getting the real details from him. The way ordering a CT goes is it costs as much as it cots, and it takes as long as it takes, and that's pretty much it.

Hey guys- Thanks for the kind words. I paid $6,500 for this 5 string and it took a little over 3 years. It really depends on what you want. I let Carl advise me on what to do since he is the pro here. I got to know him over the years and he knew my style, so really a custom fit for me. Best part about this thing, it is light as a feather, plays like sunshine.

I have photos but am still trying to fgure out how to post them.
