New chance for first bass

Hey guys, I just finished redoing my alltime first bass, one of those blue squier affinity p-basses from 2000. The neck played good and the frets were in great shape, so i just refinished the thing, put on a new pickguard, all balck hardware and a set of Duncan spb-1:s on there. Mahogany finish on the body and headstock.

Plays and sounds excellent now!

I also really dig non-glossy natural finishes. Looks like the headstock is lighter in the first picture, in reality it is the same color/darkness as the rest of the bass. Was originally planning a black pg, but might have turned out too dark, I'm really digging the white-black-mahogany -thing.

It's actually a see-thru woodwax, used for wooden toys, furniture etc. Supposed to take punishmet pretty well and will wear off in a stylish "old furniture" sort of way.

Hey, can you give us some more info on the finish job you did? I have this exact bass (Squire P) and the ONLY thing that's not perfect about it is that it is black. My least favorite bass color. Yours is my favorite. I'd like to do this to mine. I'm a finish n00b, so if you could go into some detail I would be incredibly grateful.

edit: actually the nice thing is now you have options, like different outfits for different occasions.

I too own a 2000 Squire Affinity P, and it too was my first (and is still my only) bass. I was thinking of ways to possibly revive it, and something ALOT like this came to mind.

could you go into more detail about what you did, and the costs and what have you?

Would really like the hear details on how you stripped the body. Poly is tough to remove when you're just planning to repaint, but you managed to strip it well enough for a natural finish.
