New Cheap Modded Bass Day NCMBD

I recently picked up a used Squier Affinity P Bass to fix up for my daughter's Christmas present (yes, she asked for bass stuff, which is awesome). I cleaned the fretboard with 0000 steel wool and conditioned it with mineral oil, then cleaned/polished the rest of the bass as best I could. It sounds and looks way better than I thought it would. Makes me itch for another P Bass project to keep for myself.Mods/upgrades include:
- New high-quality wiring kit (CTS, orange drop, switchcraft, push-back cloth wiring, yadda yadda)
- New (cheap but nice looking) pickguard
- New cheap higher-mass-than-stock bridge; used some longer 1-1/4" #6 screws to anchor it bc the screw holes were beginning to strip
- New heavy-feeling flat-top chrome knobs (actually came with the wiring kit)
- Dunlop Super Brights
- action/intonation/height adjustments

LOL, I'd love to see the look on the employee's face when you laid that on them.
If Fender did a limited run on MLFEW P-Basses they would sell out in minutes.
The new wiring kits will go in two of my project Partscisions one fretted one fretless. I remember replacing the output jack on one of my p basses back in the 70’s and that alone made a huge difference in the sound and output of that bass. Thanks again skyline _01Tremendous! I am not normally a maple fretboard kind of guy but it sure looks good on that pretty blue/white one.

Hey that thing looks freakin killer! I'm curious though did the harness come with 250k pots or did u opt for some 500ks like the original harness had?
Mines got 500k dime sized in it right now but it just sounds kinda stale, was wondering if a new harness with 250k's would breath some life into it without even changing the pup

Hey, thanks!! I really love the way it turned out and my daughter was very excited when she got it.
The harness I used was a very high-quality product that used 250k pots. It also had nice heavy knobs with it too. I'd be willing to bet that a new harness with the 250k pots would do good things for your bass (I'm assuming it's a Squier?). Generally speaking, the factory Squier pots/caps/jack are not that great and need to be upgraded for a more professional sound and increased durability. I'll include the link again below for the harness that I used for my daughter's bass. I just picked up a Squier VM Precision V and I'm considering putting the same one in it when I start modding it. Let me know if you decide to buy one - I'd love to hear what you think!

Yeah it's a 07 squire affinity p, I've been looking at different pickups and wiring kits but now im just thinking about just a wiring kit to see what this pickup has once it's hooked to some solid pots, I'll probably buy a kit with cts pots and an orange drop (15$) on Amazon and wire it up myself and just leave the pickup for now, thanks your reply brother
No problem at all, man... glad to help! And I think you're right to give that pickup a chance. Most times it seems the biggest impact comes from the pots/cap on these basses. Let me know how it goes!
