New EB Cobalt Flats?

OK so I put them on yesterday I first noticed the ribbon wrap is not as tight they have a small amount of grip and O man I do like these!
they have plenty of bite & have a nice meaty tone when you dig in & I could take the action pretty low.I'm not able to post sound clip cuz I am computer stupid but I can post pics.I really like them the big test will be this weakened. the silk is way more purple it was under florescent bulbs.

Flatwound here is a misnomer; they're really more akin to half rounds ( at least the B & E ). I like half rounds so this is fine to me. It also helps explain the brighter tone.

I have never played half rounds, but I would assume that half wounds would be slightly raised? tell me if I'm wrong. the EB flats though the ribbon wrap is not touching tight together it still is smooth. but maybe half rounds are smooth also?

They're not slightly raised. They basically look like these:

Halfrounds are smooth but can be grabby based on what they're made of. The pure nickel D'Addario halfrounds are sticky.

OK, so then in the world of flats there may be a wider allowance that still can be called flats?

Something like that. I think strings that are generally considered halfrounds start as rounds and then are ground down. The same with pressurewounds, but the grinding process keeps going till they're flat.

With flatwounds, I think a flat ribbon is wrapped around the core and the space between the wraps varies. Farther on these and rotosounds and closer together on most other flats.

I'm speaking strictly out of my behind but I think that's the deal.

Pressure wounds are not ground, the outer wrap winding is "pressed" from round to ovoid as the last stage before actually being wound onto the string layer stack (hence the name)

It's my supposition that the cobalts are constructed with "squared and chamfered corner" outer wrap likened to the RotoSounds .... rather than the Flat wrap followed by grind (EX GHS labella) / polish (D'addario)
which is why we see the "voids" between the "flat" surface...

AFAIK flatwounds often have this sort of "square wire primary winding" under the outer wrap of the ribbon rather than a round wound as this gives a more uniform surface to wind with the ribbon.
perhaps @SLaPiNFuNK can deconstruct one as a sacrifice (once he gets them in-hand) just to satisfy the masses... but i'm quite sure he's busy doing those things that make Bassstringsonline.com great--- and that doesn't include ruining product for our education.... now if only an Ernie Ball rep would chime in.. :/

Cobalt Flats Song Example
Many of you have asked for an example of the new Colbalt Flats so here goes. The song is In Your Eyes by Peter Gabriel.
This is the NRA Band (no rehearsing allowed) that plays once a month in L.A.
This was recorded straight from the mixing console so it is a rough mix complete wit a few clams by your truly but it should give you a good idea of what the Cobalt Flats sound like.
The bass is a Bongo Single H 5 string played through the Markbass Multiamp. The DI from the Multiamp went straight to the console.
