New EBMM Short Scale Stingrays

My Starry Night and Goldbar finishes. I may end up parting with the Starry Night if/when another version of the active EBMM Tim Commerford shorty. I was bummed that they’d opted to do only full scale TC Stingrays this year, but given that the Goldbar had just released immediately prior, it’s probably a good thing. It gives me something to look forward to in the coming years.

The T.C. model is that classic 70's StingRay that I fell in love with as a young girl. It has the mutes , the classic natural ash finish and that retro orginal logo in size that so comfortable for me . I'm passing on the Passive model to someone who will enjoy it and play it. The Starry Night is fabulous. But I have more than enough to keep me busy.

That is the best looking bass collect I have seen in a while. Or maybe I have a stingray bias.:D

Don’t pay over $3,600 for it. They generally sell for around that price. I’m sure that they’ll do another run of Tim Commerford short scales in the future. They only did full scales this run, but considering the fact that their standard EBMM shorties sell out every year, they’d be leaving money on the table by not doing the Commerford shorties in the future.

I was going to message you the same thing. I'm not so sure they will do another short scale run. New BFR models go for around this suggested price. I wouldn't pay more than that for one.

Yeah, my limit for one of these is about $3500, but I'm with you; I'm not that confident in another run of these being released anytime soon, which makes me willing to go a little higher than that just to get one of these bad boys. They are, undoubtedly, the coolest active short scale I have ever seen. I made an offer; we'll see what happens, and I'll let y'all know what transpires.

I made an offer; and I'll let you know what happens. I'm not as confident that they'll be releasing more of these in the future, and they're the coolest active short scale bass ever made, so I really want to get one.

I emailed their customer support about it last year. They’re surprisingly responsive. They said that there weren’t upcoming plans (the full scale Tim C’s were released about 2 months later), but the future wasn’t set. They explained that they take opinions of buyers and pass them up the chain. We should all reach out to their customer support team periodically and make the request. They are a fantastic company as far as their team is concerned. They may take a couple of days to get back, but they always respond.

In the meantime, a good preamp pedal will make you more than happy. The best thing about the preamp pedal is, you can use it for multiple basses. I really love the Aguilar Tone Hammer pedal, you can find them used for a great price.

Excellent suggestion; I already have a Tone Hammer pedal that I love; I'll try that out at rehearsal today.

I generally recommend the 3 band, as it’s the miss that have the most impact on the audible sound waves. Not only that, but one with variable/parametric mids. Keep in mind, this is only my opinion and I’m no pro!

If you really want to get into tone shaping, the Empress Para-EQ is a fantastic pedal. You could use this to shape the tone and feed that to the preamp. It’s pricey, but having all 3 bands as parametric settings (as opposed to the fixed frequencies of the standard EQs) is a game changer!

You should check out S.Martyn basses if you want a smooth playing active short scale. I had an S.Martyn made to the same specifications as the EBMM short scale stingray, except I went with the 28” scale for that one. I actually prefer the 30” now that I’ve had time to play the 28”. If you’re interested, lemme know and I’ll share the neck specs with you. You could get a custom one made for less than the TC.

I certainly appreciate the offer, but I'm totally sold on the EBMM SS Stingrays, and will be sticking with those from now on.
