New EBMM Short Scale Stingrays

How did it go?

Compared to a full size active Stingray, the Tone Hammer pedal has a bit more adjustment available (the sweepable mids really help in that regard), but it took literally two minutes to dial in a tone that was identical to the active Stingray. While I'm usually a plug straight into the amp kind of guy, I'll definitely be using the Tone Hammer whenever I want that active tone. My bandmates loved it, but my guitarist pointed out that the SS Stingray still sounded fantastic without the Tone Hammer. For certain gigs, I'll play the Tone Hammer. For most gigs, I'll just play passive.

You should check out S.Martyn basses if you want a smooth playing active short scale. I had an S.Martyn made to the same specifications as the EBMM short scale stingray, except I went with the 28” scale for that one. I actually prefer the 30” now that I’ve had time to play the 28”. I played one of these in the 5 string version at NAMM this past January and fell in love with it. If I could justify the outlay at this point, it would have come home with me.

. They explained that they take opinions of buyers and pass them up the chain. We should all reach out to their customer support team periodically and make the request.

I’ve been requesting a short scale fretless… they haven’t taken me up on that yet. I had a SBMM SS defretted, but it isn’t the same.

If you want a fairly authentic Stingray preamp in a pedal format, this is the way to go.
