What do you mean? They don't sound as good as the new stuff?
Or is it specific to SWR?
What I like about it is the dual amp feature. I rarely deeded it but I like the flexibility it offers.

Acquiring an SWR SM-900, reasonable?

What I was referring to with that thought is related strictly to cost. In other words, if I buy a good quality new amp, it can be resold in a few years for a good percentage of what I paid. When I pay to get my SWR head worked on the cost can easily be more than the head is worth if I were to sell it.
I enjoy my SM400S and like many older pieces of equipment (or classic cars) it has something unique that makes the cost worth it to me.
I just paid a small fortune to have a post WWII Grundig Majestic radio refurbished by one of only two places in the US that can still do that work. It was worth it to me to wait a year for the refurbishment and pay quite a premium to have it done, but from strictly a financial perspective it wasn't the most cost-effective way to be able to listen to the radio.
That's why I'm tempted by the SM900. It was my dream amp when I started bass 25 years ago but couldn't afford.
I already have more than enough amps for my needs.
My willingness to get that amp is nothing but a bit of nostalgia of a certain era.
