I feel like I've landed on a realization with my use of envelope filters and bass guitar... And that is that Envelope filters/Low Pass are not as useful as band pass with a clean blend.

Obviously this is just my opinion, YMMV, this is all just us stepping on boxes to make different noises, blah-blah who gives a crap, etc...

It's taken me a while to get here. I had always assumed "for bass, it needs to be a low pass filter"...

...Yet I always keep coming back to the MXR Bass Envelope Filter. I think the opening/closing of a band pass filter is much more "musical" than just the low pass variant. Having the dry signal gives the note enough "heft" in the low end/midrange that you need in a mix without sounding like something has dropped out of the mix, yet you still have the attack of the filter prominent.

I think I probably would like low pass env filters on an actual synth when I can slam the pedal with an aggressive signal.

So I offer this simple post in praise of the humble MXR BEF. It's good enough.

I'm right there with you, except I like the character (wet, quacky) of the Fwonkbeta just a little bit more. Granted, the MXR has more options for tweaking the tone.

Both the MXR and the FB are easy to set and can be easily heard in the mix, and that's where the rubber meets the road. I've tried maybe 4-5 others and they all basically disappeared in the mix.

The FwonkBeta is one I've meant to try but still haven't gotten around to. Next time I get the itch to try something different, I'll have to remember checking that out first.

That sounds about right...well above my pay grade, though! And with even more instability now, I'm not holding my breath for a release. I guess Behringer got the B-Tron, Dual-Phase, and BM-11M shipped before the madness happened. BTW, have any of you tried the BM-11M (Moogerfooger MF-101 clone)?

I wonder what the price the Thorpy version of the Meatball will be...

Alto Music claims to have the Behringer Meatball in stock in the USA and ready to ship. I've lost my GAS for it...perhaps a fellow TBer will try it and report back?

Ended up finding a 3 Leaf Wonderlove MK 2 for a pretty good price, so that's inbound. Very curious to compare it to the Wonderlove v1.

The GR 2 is still my favorite 3 Leaf filter.

My Wonderlove v1 is up for sale in the classifieds, if it doesn't sell by the time I get the MK 2, I'll do a direct comparison.

Gotta say... I gave up on envelope filters. I just could not ever find one that I was happy with-- and then replicate the sounds session to session. I doubled down on octave pedals and that's funky enough for me for now.
