So...does anyone think the Behringer Meatball will ever be released in the States?:eyebrow:
I'm personally waiting for the Thorpy version - that's gotta be killer, if it's anything like their Big Cheese upgraded version.

Until then I'm pretty happy with my Artisanal Effects Meathead. Beats paying the prices folks are asking for "vintage" (I can't believe something from the 90's is actually vintage lol).

I guess I'm a little anxious!

It does seem weird that it seems to be the only Behringer pedal that's on backorder. I can get a B-Tron or Dual-Phase from a US retailer. If it's a trade situation thing, then why is it not a problem regarding the other pedals? If it's a trademark thing, why give an ETA at all?

I can only guess - maybe U.S. retailers already had ample stock of those other pedals before the "T" word kicked in, and Behringer doesn't want to ship containers across the Atlantic, and into American ports at a time when in addition to that added cost, wildly fluctuating fuel costs, and possibly blockaded supplier trade routes could mean they're waiting for things to stabilise..?

I played an original meatball recently and it was really good. Huge - and potentially speaker crushing - range across all the controls. I’m definitely interested in the Thorpy offering! I’m based in the UK and there’s a Thorpy stockist in London so hopefully I can try one in person whe they are released. Will report back of course!
Ugh. This doesn't help my GAS lol. I've played a number of Meatball clones over the years, and I definitely like the Artisanal effects clone the best, but I've never directly compared it to the original. It doesn't help that they have dropped a little in price lately ..

That being said, I don't see a reasonable future that I don't grab the Thorpy version as soon as it's available :-)

That sounds about right...well above my pay grade, though! And with even more instability now, I'm not holding my breath for a release. I guess Behringer got the B-Tron, Dual-Phase, and BM-11M shipped before the madness happened. BTW, have any of you tried the BM-11M (Moogerfooger MF-101 clone)?

I wonder what the price the Thorpy version of the Meatball will be...

There aren't many envelope filters on my GAS list these days, but a first production run of the SMG Effectmatic Elek-Tron 1000 (or any of the various brands that it was sold under) was at the top of the list.

Emphasis on "was." I have one on the way. The first run is supposed to be identical to the OG MuTron III - exact same components including the photo cells, subsequent runs had minor tweaks (designated by a change in model number 1200 as opposed to 1000).

Very curious as to how this thing compares!

Now, if I could only find a Guyatone Funky Box and a Wahvelope ....

I once owned a Univox Effectmatic (licensed '70s Mu-Tron III clone), and I owned an original Musitronics Mu-Tron III in that same time frame.

I never took a peek at the guts of either pedal, but regarding the sound, the only difference was the Effectmatic had a shorter decay. Otherwise, the sound was identical.

I had a Guyatone Funky Box...to my ears, it sounded like their WR3, which I also owned. I just looked up the Wahvelope...YIKES!!!😱:wideyed::jawdrop: For that kind of money, I would think they'd have at least one very extensive and detailed demo.

Yup! Those licensed clones were all made by Univox, and sold under different brands, but all of them were the exact same thing. There are differences between the 1000 series and the 1200 series, but they are supposed to be minute and tbh I'm not that curious enough to track a 1200 down to compare. But I totally dig the idea, looking fwd to playing thru it. And I would love a shorter decay for my MuTron!!

Hmmmm. I've mostly been curious about the Funky Box because I was thinking that the tube might add a different flavor of stank. Imo, the way a filter breaks up a bit at its peak can separate a good filter from a great one. Some of the filters I've tried have harsh peaks, I was looking forward to seeing how a tube reacts.

And yeah, the Wahvelope is crazy expensive. I'm more intrigued to try it than anything else, but I can't see paying that price.

Also, is the WR3 worth checking out? At this point I don't need another MuTron type filter, but curious if it brings something else to the table n
IME, it had a mean-sounding sweep (which I like!), but when that sweep happened, some pretty big volume spikes came along with it. I suppose it could be tamed (perhaps with a compressor?), but I didn't want to deal with that.

the newer versions have a volume knob ... and I'm trying to figure out the differences between all the models - the WR-2, the WR-2 Sala(?), the WR-3, the WR-5, the WR-6, the TWA WR ... they are like Pokeman!

This is what I am doing today ...

and yup, sounds (and perhaps just as important reponds) just like my OG MuTron ... I'll post recordings at some point, but I'm thinking this is a keeper ..

Spending to tweak time with these this weekend to decide whether or not I like the Funk Machine. Catalinbread Changeling is an updated take on the original and almost impossible to find version. It might be a pedal I keep but rarely use on bass since so far it works better for me on other instruments like electric piano, Hohner pianet/clavinet and to a lesser extent guitar.

I’m surprised no one has mentioned the FTelettronica Envelope Follower in the discussion of Meatball clones. I have an original Meatball as well as the Ftelettronica clone, and they are very, very similar in terms of tone, feel, and operation. I seriously doubt that if they were a/b’d in a live or studio mix anyone would hear a difference. They are less than half the price new of a used Meatball, and are housed in a somewhat smaller enclosure. Worth checking out.

I've also wanted to try out the Ftelettronica's Meatball clone for a long time, because I highly regret selling my Barge Concepts Grinder. I picked that one up early on in my effects pedal explorations, but sold it because I couldn't wrap my head around it at the time, But now I'm curious as to how the Ftelettronica and Artisinal Meathead compare.

5sg.

Try the Seamoon Funk machine in the FX loop You might need to use the internal pad though. It's my favourite one trick pony.
