Distortion is a bit meh. They should've just put the Bass Soul Food in there, it's a pretty OK bass OD.
One knob compressors are often... lame. Maybe this one's OK?
The kicker is the 1/4" doubling as a headphone out. That said... no Aux In for those guys that are going to want to use it for playing along with their phones.
It's like they got so close to something great, but then just went for the lowest common denominator.
Hope they aren't using the sucky footswitches still.

I think the distortion needs the treble cut on the video to sound more authentic. Does anyone know what the frequency centres are for the 4 band eq?
I was waiting for EHX to release something like this. It's like an upgraded Bass Metaphors with a noise gate.
For 150$ looks and sounds great to me. I would go with a Darkglass B7kU. But for the price. This looks interesting to me. Coming from a zoom multi fx. This is an upgrade.

Yeah this seems like a pretty interesting niche somewhere between a single effects unit and a multi effects unit. It won't do everything for everybody but it will do a lot for a pretty big segment, and at a nice price point too.
I would be curious what you stomp box enthusiats would compare this to. I'm other words, what box has most or all (or more) of what this one does, but does it better, regardless of price point. Compressor notwithstanding, I'm genuinely curious.

There's likely many more. The point is, the market is filled with lots of bass DI boxes with preamps built in. A lot of bass players go direct, no amp on stage, so having some control of the signal you send to front of house is nice.
The original sansamp looked like a regular DI box but actually had the controls, that are on the outside of the modern BDDI, on the inside for set and forget tone tweaking and so that the knobs wouldn't scare sound guys.
Like I said, most one knob compressors suck. That distortion sounded pretty awful. If they would've snuck an LPF and HPF on there instead of the compressor, they would really be hitting a mark that few other pieces of gear are hitting.
How about with a blend? A couple you mentioned I looked up and they don't have it. (I know I'm picking your brain but I'm trying to do more of an apples to apples comparison.)
I like the features this unit has, but would like to be able to do a head to head comparison between it and similar units.

That part of the demo sounded good to me but what I was asking was, what is the distortion part of the pedal based off of. Is it related to the bass soul food, is it a moded tube screamer or something else.

EHX is a bit late to the party on this one. I don't think its fair to judge any distortions based solely on one video, though it does sound more or less "run of the mill", whatever that means. It's kind of funny how TB expects every preamp pedal to now come equipped with variable HPF/LPF's, as if it was something they found painfully missing on most of the other similar format pre/DI's of the last decade that don't have it. EHX must not have been paying close enough attention to our current needs again. Shame on them.
What kind of puzzles me is they felt the need to include a noise gate and compressor. I guess it's a "value added" type thing and they wanted to fill up some space. I think that space could have been better used to incorporate an aux in w/input volume and they would probably be looking at more potential sales.
