So idk, if this has been posted already today and if it has, sorry. Anyway, ESP posted a blog on Myspace about their new models and they've got some pics. heres the link:

So, it looks likes theres only 1 new bass. The Phoenix bass. Ok, so I LOVE Esp's, i mean i really do. But copying the Thunderbird body, thats just not cool. And even worse, they call it "The Phoenix". ***? I mean come on have some originality. I mean the headstock looks really cool in my opinion, but the body is just a no. Not cool ESP, not cool.

Thoughts?

I ready to give an ESP TB-style bass a chance. I had visions of an all-black metal bass with black hardware and sod off great big EMG soapbars on a Thunderbird shape....

...and then I saw the picture, and my heart sank. I had respect for ESP up until that moment. :bawl:

I agree it's not cool, they didn't even mention the thunderbird/firebird in the blog post. But I still think it's a very cool bass :hyper:

Dude, almost all of the ESP instruments are Gibson-inspired. Most of their sixers are modeled after the Lesters and SGs. In fact some of their versions are actually better at some musical styles than the Gibsons. I can't say that for their basses as I've not played alot of 'em but it's definately not uncool to see this design incorporated in a new and different approach.

Talk about reviving an old thread, but...

I really don't see the problem in ESP making a Thunderbird-type bass...they're certainly not the first to do so!

Why not ESP? By the way, I love the reverse headstock and inlays ESP put on their version...can't wait to get my hands on one once they release it! :bassist:
