Sounds like you're describing an iAmp800 to me. :)

I keep looking for a two channel iAmp800 that's 10" wide, weighs <10#, and provides variable input impedance, a 24dB/octave variable HPF, and illuminated controls.

Fat chance, but I can dream! ;)

Why doesn't someone make an amp with all the features you are talking about? I have never figured that out myself. It is like the manufacturers keep making the amp they think we want instead of really asking players about what they want. The doubler seems like a solid attempt to do this however, having consulting Mike Dimin and other great players. Hence its coolness. I had an Iamp 800, and I don't remember loving that much. I liked my old Iamp600 much better and was crushed when it issued the magic smoke on a gig.

They do...Its the doubler !
I've been giging with the Doubler for 2 yrs with electric and upright basses and have no problems at all playing rock, blues and jazz. The preamp section sounds great set flat or close depending on the room. The amp is so small I'm wondering how many hours before smoking it!... like it's size has something to do with it right? I've never turned it up full throttle but it's great little amp for any gig. Speaker cabinets may be the biggest factor in your sound. I use glockenklang or swr... favoring the 2x12 glock of course and I don't like 15"s

Well, this thread is a monster but very helpful!

I have been using a two channel Epifani UL502 for about six years and have been wondering when I might find something better suited for doubling that is micro sized. How did I overlook this amp?

I'm using a PJB Super flightcase on upright only gigs, and this head will be more for electric only or double gigs. I hope I like the electric sound enough by itself. I have an aguilar tone hammer pre that could be put in front of it to warm it up a bit if need be.

Anyway, thanks for the thread. I hope to order on of these shortly and give it a whirl.

Dead thread revival! I just picked one of these up used, and I'm trying to figure out the intelligent switching. If I plug into channel 2, I am able to switch between the eq/gain of channel 1 or 2 by selecting the channel, but if I am plugged into channel 1, I get silence when I switch to channel 2 for that eq/gain. Is my amp malfunctioning, or is that the way it is supposed to work?

That confused me as well, but that is how it is supposed to work. Channel 2 is the "master" channel, so if you want to plug in one input and be able to switch between EQ sections, use that one. The manual is a little mixed up as one part says:

"With your bass plugged into channel 1, the switch will let you access the EQ on channel 1 or channel 2 (i.e. clean/solo)."

While a later part says:

"PLEASE NOTE: If you want to use a single input and switch between 2 different EQ
settings (i.e. clean/solo) you MUST use Channel 2 as your “Master” channel
(DOUBLER ONLY)."

I'm guessing that the original text referred to the EA Micro.

Dead thread revival part deux. I just picked up a used Doubler series 1. Loving it so far after watching Lee Sklar talk about his Doubler and Wizzy 10 that he uses for smaller gigs with Judith Owen. Plenty of power with the rig, upright sounds good, mic channel works well. The only thing I dislike so far is the DI out. It seems really noisy. I’ve worked with the gain level on the top but I still can’t get a good DI tone with it. Also am getting a bit of noise when using pedals before the input, haven’t experimented with the effects loop yet.
