New Flatwound Silk? Rotosound SM77

Did a search and couldn't find anything.

I used Rotosound flatwounds a couple years back and remember them having red silk at the tuner and black silk at the bridge along with colored ball ends (red, blue, white, red).

Just bought a set of rotosound long scale 40-100 sm77 flatwounds and while they still have red silk at the tuner end as well as the same ball ends, these do not have black silk at the bridge.


Has this always been the case or is this a recent change?


Also, the E and A string are very bright while the D and G string are very dark/thumpy. Can't remember if this is normal with roto flats but I'm sure they'll even out as they break in.

A recent-ish one, from the looks of it. Rotosound RS77 LE review is from early this year, and shows no silk at the balls.
(Years ago, pre colour-coded ball era, silks were there and red at both ends. For long-scale Rotosound Jazz Bass flatwounds, that is: medium- and short-scale ones had pale blue, and Steve Harris sig set had...red white and blue? and still has? I can't remember anymore.)

AFAIK this is normal, to an extent, for long-scale Roto 77 flats. See e.g. the YT videos liked in this thread:
