Got it. What I’m sayin is that Fender is listing basswood for these, and I think that’s subpar for $800. They use ash or alder for most/all of the current Fender P basses. Why not this one?
Weird, I can no longer see the "New" Japanese Fenders on the site, and they have been removed the the drop down bass menu. The only one I can see now is the 60s Precision Midnight.

Last night this Jazz Bass was on Fenders site, but I can't find it now. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place.
Yeah me neither. I tried using their search function to find "Made in Japan" and a bunch of guitars and that one P bass came up. The other basses have all vanished.
I'm glad I grabbed that Jazz Bass photo last night or I would be wondering if I imagined it...
As much as I want a Jazz... and as much as I'm interested in the specs of the Hybrid 60's and Traditional 70's versions, I don't like practically any of the color offerings for the Jazz basses
Really like the aesthetics of that 60's PBass, but I'm not all that interested in a PBass right now.
Guess I'll just have to wait for the next new Fender offering for now.
Check out the new colors for the MIM Classic Series. The discontinued the Classic 50's black lacquer with gold anodized guard Precision for a white with anodized gold guard, and a white Classic 60's Jazz with tort guard (previous version was sunburst).
I don't know why they've taken it down, but their website has always been iffy.
The strings are fine. In fact, they're great.
I won't delve into the politics of it. But the state of California has pretty much decided that everything is bad. Everything.
Seriously, it's a state law in California that anything they have deemed harmful to you or the environment must have a warning. So the rest of us can keep it right on playing Fender strings with zero harm whatsoever. They only harm you if you are a citizen of California.
Being a Californian, I can attest that it’s become just plain silly. What good is a warning at all when literally everthing has a warning on it? How are we to ever know if a product is actually harmful, when everything from guitar strings to hot tubs to my daughter’s pacifiers are labeled with a warning? It’s what happens when you put too many jackasses in a room together.
My friend's wife, a gigging, professional bassist (unlike me), tried a new Performer Jazz recently. She, too, said the new Yosemite pickups were pretty fine.
Because a great number of the offerings from Fender-Japan, both before and after the dissolution of the FMIC/Kanda-Shokai joint venture, are made with basswood. It's kinda like how alder is the go-to wood here in The States. It's what they can get conveniently and they do great things with it. Certainly, they made the occasional, special edition instrument out of ash or other, more exotic, woods, but basswood is, and has been for quite some time, their bag.
So is it only available to the Japanese market? Two days ago this was showing up on the US Fender site, along with a bunch of other Japanese Fender bass offerings -- all gone today except the Midnight Precision.
It's not on the Fender UK website either but they are available to buy here.

Has any conclusion been brought? Are Fender Japan Precision and Jazz basses being added to the crowded field or was that all some sort of teaser that has no findings.
They did make the A/E Precision in the mid nineties, which was similar to the Acoustasonic. With that said, I too think that it would be nice to see an Acoustasonic Precision or Mustang.Hrm, getting some broken links here (US)
In non-bass news, the Telecaster Acoustasonic looks mildly insane. Acoustic guitar modeling combined with a semi-hollow body, presumably designed not to feed back at loud volumes, and easy switching to an electric sound. When is Fender going to do something this innovative for basses?
