Hey, everyone. I keep seeing this place come up in search results and figured it was time to join. I've been playing bass for 28 years. After growing up playing violin I rebelled in my teenage years and bought a bass. My first "real" bass was a late 80's MIJ P which I still have and consider my main bass. Guitar is my other main instrument, but I've also played drums in a few bands. I currently play bass in an original 3 piece indie rock band with some old friends and it's been a blast.
Some of my influences are:
Tina Weymouth (Talking Heads), Gary "Mani" Mounfield (The Stone Roses), Andy Rourke (The Smiths), Kim Coletta (Jawbox), Joe Lally (Fugazi), Fontaine Toups (Versus)
I mainly play with fingers, but I do switch to a pick for a few songs for tonal reasons. Lately I've been really focused on trying to clean up/eliminate slop from my playing and controlling how notes ring out (or don't). I still have a lot to learn, but I'm happy with the progress I've made so far.
I sold most of my amp gear when I moved to Seattle and have been fortunate to be able to borrow for a while, but I recently decided it's time to put my own rig together. I'm tired of lugging a large, heavy 4x10 around, and my son plays drums, so it would be great to have a simple small setup that works for home and takes up less space when we play out. One thing I'm learning in getting back into bass gear is speaker and cabinet design has come a long way since I started.
Anyway, looking forward to meeting some new folks here.
