The MJ-5 has OFFICIALLY been released with its inclusion on the 2014 G&L Price List starting Aug 1st per Rocket Music ! (FANTASTIC place to buy G&Ls by the way, great dudes! great prices in my experience)

How about them apples? Should be same neck dimensions as all the other G&L 5ers #10 neck 17.5mm spacing. Believe it or not, it will be the ONLY 17.5mm spacing Jazz 5er... like a Musicman 5.

Active 3 band EQ with the M series Pre-amp... Bi-Coil Alinco V SPLIT COIL pickups...

like the MJ-4 seen here by Ed...

I have never found G&L spacing to be uncomfortable, but it would have been nice if the spacing were at least 18mm at the bridge. Oh well, G&L is pretty small, and retooling five string necks and bridges may cost more than they want to spend.

Trying to find some user experiences of the MJ-4, not a lot around. Not a popular bass?

To my ears the L-100 P bass sounds more aggressive than the MJ-4 J bass! Go figure!

Yep. I was seriously looking at a M2500 when they first came out. Went over to Bass Central to check one out. Loved the tone, really well built but I did not like the string spacing. I prefer 19MM but I can live with 18MM. 17.5 is just too cramped for me.

17.5mm is only half the story. The nut width is 1.75 I think it's too narrow overall. 17.5mm and 1.81 @the nut feels pretty different. 18mm and 1.81 feels even more so. (Fender) ....Why some manufacturers lock in on some specs and don't budge befuddles me. Befuddled I tell you!

edit: I like the preamp and pickups on this bass. Tough bass to walk away from.

its the same as all the EBMM 5s & G&L 5s so its going to feel like home for guys that roll with those basses (Which I do) That said I have a Carvin Icon 5 with 17mm spacing & thats too tight for slap, everything else is just fine. Since I need a bass for slap for this new band I may need 18mm... which I can swing. I can't swing 19mm.

Argh!

Why all the hate on string spacing? I think it's great for the fact that, if there are indeed no other five string jazz basses with 17.5mm spacing, now there is. And for those who prefer that string spacing and wanted a jazz, it's now available to them. There are so many others out there that fit your needs, now there's even more options for those who never had quite the right fit.

Obviously there are nuances to each bass, and I understand some may love G&L specifically and not the string spacing, but I think for most, it's great to have the option.

You may be waiting a while! I bet it's very accurate to eds video. I personally went fender jazz v instead of mj-5 for the extra spacing but I did just order a lb-100 and its tone was just like eds video

Rocket music is the best on pricing and service on g&l

I would rather have a fine fender American deluxe jazz V that performs as described. But the one I just purchased last week has terrible buzzing electronics and a sitar like annomoly on the b string.

I'm going to try and order an MJ-5 this week.
