New Gear Effect :) :? :(

So, it seems to me that when I hear something at a store it sounds amazing, when I get it home its fantastic, and then a month later its not what I "NEED". Same goes for my eyes watching Talkbass classifieds!

Does the human body respond to gear like it does a sexual mate?
The male body can be aroused and re aroused much quicker buy a new mate than by someone they have spent an extended amount of time with. This is true according to studies I researched at Indiana University while obtaining my B.S. I am wondering if the same thing is happening with gear. Not that it's "Better" but that is "New" arouses us and out paypal accounts.

Just a thought. Please discuss. Also, please know I am not trolling. I just feel like I have wasted time, let good instruments go, and paid a whole crap load of shipping. Not that buying new gear is bad, or trying things is bad, but maybe if we played more music....

I tend to agree with you. I've been accused of "using up" girlfriends when I get tired of them (actually, no, I am just after "that" person, and you weren't it. lol).

I also tend to go through a lot of gear. I buy something, but then after a few months, it's already said everything it can to me, I've used it up and can't write as prolifically with it any more. Grab any new bass and I am a creative, writing machine again. Until it's done talking then I need something else again.

There is probably is some kind of weird psychological correlation between the two.

It's always easier to blame some external issue for whatever dissatisfaction you currently feel than it is to accept personal responsibility.

Lord knows I've never done that but, some do.

Did I mention how great my new Berg 322 sounds?

Maybe our eyes are drawn to new gear. But then there is the old issue of "love", and if you really love something, then I guess it'll do it for you from now until the time that the skies collapse
