I can vouch for these, direct replacement, hipshot tunners. I got the black ones in my geddy lee and the tunning ratio is way better than the stock ones.
Agreed. I've done the same w/ my Geddy, and am really happy with the end result. Ritter, did you go with the Detuner? I've been kicking around swapping out the stock E for one...
I'm thinking you might have a dud tech. Those detuners haven't changed in design since the very late 70's except for a few new models pretty much. They're pretty rugged, but come apart when they're disassembled pretty easy. Only thing that can really fall apart that's not supposed to is the four rivets in the corners. Not at the momment. I swaped all the chrome hardware aside from the control plate over to black though. It's funny you mention the detuner cause i remember getting one used for my music man and it was cool until it' literally fell apart after i sent the bass in for a routine set-up....I'm thinking i got a dud detunner or because it was used...I dont know I was sort of put off by them...I might try it again sometime, I'd buy it new though. I'm sure new ones or ones that you can have requested installed on special order basses work well.
Yeah that could be the case to(dud tech). Funny thing is it busted right in the store as i was testing his "work" out after he had set up the Ray 4. I wasn't even sending it there to have the detunner installed either, it was just a routine set-up, and yes i know most ppl would have demanded their money back and caused a huge deal but i was like "**** it". I got the stock tuner at home, i want my bass back and dont feel like waiting another two weeks to get it back ********..So now I just sort of remember not to send anything else there to be set-up again...I'm willing to be open minded about the whole thing though, maybe I'll try one out again in the future and hell maybe on that geddy lee bass but I might get it on my Ray 4 though again first.I'm thinking you might have a dud tech.
