New guy here!

Best amp for the money is a Peavey. A TNT 130 will do it all, and you can pour beer in it and drop it off the tail gate when you're going 65 and it will still work. Should be able to score one for $150 or less, leaves enough scratch for a brand new Squire 50s Precision, or a used Made in Mexico Fender Precision.

Buy a Mexican Fender Precision (or a Fender Jazz if you think that you will play in a noisy band with distorted guitar... it cuts the mix a little better).
It is a respected instrument good enough to go at practice room with a band without having the brand/aspect of a beginner instrument (like a squire for example) and same is if you go recording in a studio... but at the same time it has a very low price.
If you want to sell, it has a quick market.

However, my first bass was a 100$ Eko. (Chinese). Plays quite well, for the price.

I have seen several recommendations for the Ibanez Talman bass? (tmb100 right?) I love the looks and the general QC of Ibanez instruments as well as Yamaha. Are they that good for the price?
Look into a (used—they're not making them right now) Ibanez ATK as well.

Welcome into the fold.

A US Peavey Foundation or Fury would be great basses to look at. I think a very underrated bass that I have found to be fantastic is a LTD B-50. The Foundation and the B-50 have two of the best necks I have ever played. The B-50 is also light in weight. The B-50 I have tips the scales at 7 1/2 lbs. It is also a well balanced bass with great sound and capable of some great tones out of the PJ pickup configuration.

Good luck in your quest to find a bass that fits your needs. Keep us posted and post pictures when you find your bass.
