if I had $1500, i'd look for a used Bongo 5 and a used Carvin SB5000 on TB classifeds. Then I'd live on granola bars, Kraft Dinner, foraged berries and Polar seltzer till I'd saved up the overage.
+1 I've also got a Modulus Q5 that I've played for the last 13 years. It's an amazing bass that will not disappoint! I think that you pick one up used that's within your price range.
