Hey fellow bassists!! Nice to meet you all. Can anyone help identify this please??
I've been re-learning bass for a year or so now. Having played in bands previously on drums and guitar, I've dabbled on bass as a teen. I've recently taken up bass seriously and committing to learning, practising and playing it well.
A couple of years ago while looking around for £200-£300 basses, I tried all the usual suspects, Fenders Ps & Js, Ibanez, Washburn, Yamaha RBXs and couldnt' make up my mind. Then in Singapore I found this TGM, the looks attracted me first, and I thought it was also well made and finished. Turned out, it even played very well. As I deliberated over the choices of the more expensive basses I was told the price of the TGM. £95. Couldn't believe it. It looked good, well made, played beautifully. While in the shop, as my conscience wrestled with buying a cheap copy over a genuine trademarked product, they threw in a strap, gig bag, lead and pics all for the same price. Sold!! Also in the back of my mind, as my playing improved changed, I could easily upgrade. Over the last year, I've looked at pedigree upgrades and honestly, while they're 3 or 4 times more expensive, I don't prefer them 3 or 4 times more than this TGM.
My question is, what is it a copy of? I've seen on the interweb TGM copy lots of guitars. I can't help thinking, this is a copy of a classic design. But who's or what?
