New head search...

I know this goes against your master plan but couldn't you just put the 2 Bag Ends side by side rather than stacked?

Then you would have no limitation on the amp width.

Just an idea.

BTW-that natural BE cab looks great!

Thanks, my old rig was oiled birch and I had fallen in love with the look. The old ones held up well even with my neglect and abuse. As far as side by side... I've always read about the benefits of a Line Array and I've spent too much time in my past on tiny stages to want to double my stage space needs.

If I were going for a modern amp, I'd look at GB. ;)

HA!!! good one Bob! You going for a modern amp :D

Eden WT405
Simple EQ, great sounding compressor, 620watts @ 2ohms.
Fits in a amp bag :D

I'm thinking maybe...

I have never had the opportunity to fall in love with an Eden amp. But by all comments so far it seems like the right fit for your needs.

I'm pretty sure the Focus1RIII will be at the top of my list. I might need to drive down and see (All Hail) Bob G

Like I said I have a 2RIII and really like it allot. I have used it for upright gigs, also with my 2x10 for small clubs and a 4x10 outside and in big clubs. It get's hot but I've been using it a little over 6 months now and have played at least 50 gigs on it.

The EQ section is not very dynamic but you seem to have the tone area covered.

Having the 2 channel version is actually really cool, I had a situation where we had PA problems and I was able to run two vocal mics into XLR inputs and gave them reverb. In addition I was able to run my bass into the effects return with my small box preamp. It was a life saver in that case!

I've used the 1001RB before and currently have 700RB- they both seem to have that distinctive GK voicing (which I don't like with some cabs)- for some reason though I really, really like them with Bag End cabs.

You might shoot 4Mal a PM- he bought 2 S-15's from me and I think he's run them with his 1001RB as well. He could probably give you another opinion on how they sound.

oh yeah, I dig them with the GK. They do real well with a YBA-200 as well. The efficiency helps a bunch there. I'm probably not the right opinion though as GK heads just work for me. Avatar, JBL, Bag End, Music Man, even a home brew slot port with a kappalite. I can get happy with all of those combo's. To me GK makes a very unfussy head.

The sound in my head, that bass tone that I gravitated towards back in days on the road was one or two GK 400 B's and 2 or 4 JBL 15's in either scoop bins (2) or Cabaret (4625) bins. The usual setup was 1 head and the 2 Cabaret bins, behind the mains pointed more or less cross stage as monitors. For good or bad, the GK famlial sound was pretty much driven into my skull from one of those dudes in my ear.

I like the Eden stuff I played through but .. the WT-400 was weak - sweet! but weak... The Naviator / 2402 doesn't exactly meet James needs for narrow ... and it had way too many knob's on it for me to deal with long term. When I'm feeling rich, I'll probably add a WT head back into the mix as I do like the tonality for some things. From out front - it is one of the more distinctive or 'less generic' sounding heads around. Catch the John Prine clip from the Austin City Limits dvd (2005 outdoor festival). Not sure who that is behind him, best guess is David Jacques - whoever he is - he's a rippin' good bass player. That's a great Eden clip.

There's good about generic though. The GK is there. T'Funk, GB Shuttle, LM-II and F1 - all sound real similar from out front... great - I can snag any one and sound like me. If I were relying on the Eden tone - not so much ... still it's a tone I would like to have in the quiver - just not the only tone ... The GK I can live with day or night. It get's stolen - worst case you get a rental 800 or go to GC and lay down the card...

I also couldn't care a rat's very small backside about the appearance of ...
bagtray.jpg

or that I can't make it sound like the GK or the GK like it... not sure what to make of that combo yet but it's been fun dialing it in. The Traynor may be the least intuitive head that I've owned. Definately not plug 'n play, set 'n forget - nooooo. One has to actually participate with this sucker... there's some good tone in there and some equally horrid tone in there ... On the appearance front - I just noticed is's all black & white, with a little silver. Great wedding band rig! (not!)

I've been emailing with Rick @ AI... I'm 99% sure I'm gonna roll with the Focus 1.

Not only does it do (and exceed) what I'm looking for spec wise, it's got a very simple and straight forward EQ AND it's known to do well not only with URB but also with guitar.
