I'm new here and wanted to say hello. My main instrument in our band is E bass. At the moment I play either a Fender Jazz or a Precision. From the 80ties till about the mid nineties I always didn't like UB's (I thought they were too big, delicate and of course difficult to learn and play) .... until I recorded the first UB in my Studio. It was a small jazz combo and they wanted a demo tape. From that time going, the warm, deep, woody, singing UB sound just didn't get out of my head anymore. So I started researching, reading books, checking out forums, talked to UB players and recorded one or two more more UB's in the studio.
This year about end of April I found one. I bought it at an antique market. Luckily I had the choice between 2 other basses but I chose this one quite because of its sound.... even though it has a crack :-(. It had that sound like the UB I recorded in the nineties. The other two (although one was a carved) sounded kinda "dead".
So, for the time being, I've been practicing (killing my back and my fingers) and recording and it sounds just great
) and that compensates for everything for the moment.... OK, OK I'll get a teacher sometime (in May I thought otherwise...) .... and I've read the newbie threads too .
Now to my Question (all of my other questions have been answered )
have any of you seen this bass anywhere before? It 3/4 and doesn't have any labels or anything on the outside or the inside.
Btw. very valuable and interesting information here..... and UB's are really cool instruments
