New Hipshot Bridge on 2022 4003?

The new Ric bridge is totally updated and no longer has the issues of the old style.
It now has a separate string anchor plate under the chrome shroud, and the saddles are conventionally fully adjustable and side to side spacing adjustable as well.
So yes, the mounting screw pattern is different.
There's no need to replace it.

It has never gotten in my way.

You can remove the screws and foam if they really impede something.

Never got in my way either but it is a common complaint.

Yes, and You can even remove the teeth, (the main offender) if your’re determined enough, and have the skills.
(Custom 4004 owned by Dane Wilder.) but what a PITA! The Hipshot is a much simpler solution.
I like to play near the bridge, and the whole forward part of the Rick bridge (both versions) is an annoying
string access impeding knuckle basher. The only Rickenbacker basses I have nowadays are 4004 models, which never were subjected to the old fashioned bridges.

Absolutely no idea why they say they they're not compatible with newer models as I don't own a Rickenbacker but hopefully the attached file will help you decide if it's right or not.
Make a template up to scale then take your existing bridge off, see how it fits. If it's just the hole spacing then fill your existing holes and drill new ones.

I have been corresponding with Oscar at Hipshot. He says I will have to drill new holes. However, when I asked about bridge height he couldn’t give me a solid answer. Palm muting is part of my playing style so I have to get rid of the stock RIC bridge. I don’t mind drilling new holes. I’ve customized all my gear to suit my sound and playing style.

I’m going to take the chance and install the Hipshot Bridge. I’ll post my review when it’s done.

Just ensure that (if) any original holes very close to the Hipshot new holes are filled with some dowel and epoxy or UPVA and leave to cure overnight, make sure dowel is flush to body before start of fitting bridge. Don't throw away or lose your original screws, keep them to one side. Use a self centre-ing drill like these (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Gasea-Cabi...03001245&sprefix=self+cent,aps,83&sr=8-7)(you can pay what you want for them but if it's a one off then get the cheap ones), into the countersink of the bridge screw holes to ensure the hole stays central. Recommend aligning bridge first and use clamps to keep in position, drill one hole only then screw that down nice and tight. Re-align bridge clockwise, or anti clockwise around fixed pivot point if necessary by tapping the bridge while one screw holding it tight until it lines up perfectly then drill 2nd hole diametrically opposite. Screw that down tight then drill 3rd and 4th holes then screw.
Believe me, it only takes half a mil off centre with your 2nd hole if drilling by eye to throw the whole thing out, and while it won't sound any different it'll do your head in looking at it. .
If you find you can't get on with the new bridge, reverse the process with your old bridge filling any holes you made with the Hipshot and picking up any (or all) of the original holes. Sounds complicated but it's really simple.

The bridge has been installed! Feels great! Looks great! The action is lower and I can palm mute very easily. Of course new holes had to be drilled but it was done by a very good luthier. The only downside is the HS bridge is waaaay over priced!

Good to hear it, yeah those bridges far exceed the prices that Hipshot normally charge and would make a reasonable downpayment on a family car. Anyway the thing is you're happy and when I get my Ric one day the first thing I'll be doing is putting this bridge on.

Just to provide an update to the Hipshot Rickenbacker bridge. I called Hipshot today and they have since fixed the the wobbling saddles issue by using flat head screws now.
