New Ibanez TMB500...yes 500!

The TMB500 is nowhere to be seen in Europe yet.... The GAS-o-metre just blew up!

Wow, those must be the sharpest-looking Talmans I've seen! Although neither of those colors are ones I'd naturally gravitate to, they do look great paired with those lovely necks.

It's also nice to see they don't have a painted headstock, like most of the other TMBs. Some of the other models look a bit heavy/busy, but these are very balanced, simple, and pleasing to my eye.

And I don't miss the Ivory color option; while I generally like ivory/white basses, Ibanez' Ivory verges on Banana Pudding. (The only instrument I've ever named was a TMB30, nicknamed The Banana.)

Would TMB500/505 okoume body be lighter than TMB600/605 ash body which some complained of weighing a ton?

While there are many types of Ash and it matters where on the tree the tonewood is harvested (lower down is lighter), the Okume should be 1/3 lighter then your typical heavy ash.

Yeap. Had the 600 bodies been built with swamp ash, they would turn out very light. At least my SRFF806, which body was made out of swamp ash, said so. By far, at only 3.8 kg, it is the lightest long scale 6 string bass that I've ever had. My other 6ers were at 5~6 kgs.

But we know the fact that the 600 bodies weren't swamp ash and those who have played them confirmed the heavy weight.

I never did get why Ibanez did area specific exclusives. Like what's there to gain? Getting a bit worried myself here, because I just saw a German Ibanez 2020 catalog and the TMB500 is nowhere to be found. I'd get a TMB600, if not for the fact that I don't like binding on my necks and the weight. The TMB600 wasn't in the 2020 catalog either, by the way.

Exactly.
My L2000 is swamp Ash and only weighs 7.3 lbs.

I guess the green is the only color they're offering it in? Not finding another color option but admittedly didn't dig too much. Not a big fan of that color.

I think im going to pre order one as well. I had a tmb100 that i dearly miss and currently have a tmb310 that i adore. I wish it came in another color. My tmb310 is teal and thats pretty green. Im not against a respray. Guess I'll have to get it here first.

I like the green but it won't be my favorite. I ordered because I feel it's my duty to show Ibanez these will sell so they eventually come out with other colors lol.

Review of a green 300:

Love the split coil MM style bridge PU. My 605 and 100m have Jazz style bridge PUs.

I think its considered a double jazz rather than a mm style. Either way it has a nice growl. Im a fan of the pre amp as well. I think it compliments the pickups quite well.

Just checked with Thomann, they said it's US exclusive...

Sucks, because there is no alternative in Europe. TMB100 lacks the active/passive and Nordstrand pickups, TMB600 is heavy, has a bunch of binding I don't like and in some cases weird woodgrain.

I’ve been GASsing for the 500, or mb the 505, for the past couple of weeks! Combination of the retro vibe, upgraded everything and that it won’t break my piggy bank. Wondering if the wider neck will be fast enough, considering I’ve been playing on a SUB 4 string and Fender fretless JBS. Wondering if it’ll be a good swap, soundwise, for the SUB, which has felt, uhm, sub-par since I got the Fender. Also wondering how much of a step up it will actually be from the SUB, all-round. Wondering many things. Mostly wondering when it’ll be at my local CG so I can stop wondering.
