New(ish) Band Room Day

After waiting a couple years after moving in, I finally starting building out my band room this year.

(This is after building out my workshop, as seen here - D&R's build thread)

Today, after a few days of work spread out over a month or two, I think I'm ready to call it done. Here's what it looks like -

Very glad to have done with this. Hopefully it'll better accommodate prospective band mates...

Heck yeah. Looks good! I'm doing a similar project right now with my basement. Are you adding anything to the walls? Panels, blankets, etc

I'm curious about the guitarstand
I can't see how it looks where the basses rest against the wall.
Do you have some kind of padding there as well?

There isn't. It's meant to work such that you don't have to rest the heads against the wall. Of course, I did anyway because to do otherwise kinda freaked me out. So...I just gotta be very careful about setting them against the wall. So far, so good...

Nice job! Great Ideas I may borrow. I also would hang those moving blankets for acoustic dampening?

That's probably gonna be the plan moving forward. Either that or build acoustic panels with insulation, and use the blankets as the fabric over them. Stay tuned!

Good call on the split AC.

Actually the contractor's call. I definitely wanted an A/C unit, and he suggested the split. Only thing is I wish I had told him to mount it on the back wall above where the shelves are now. Of course, I wouldn't be able to stack things as high if we had gone that route...

I did my own split install in my house and it was not hard. It is better than an AC IMO

I think you can cut pieces from an old towel, wrap them on top, and secure them with zip ties.

Overall not bad. It's not too big (like 10' x 20') and there's normal fiberglass insulation behind the walls so it's not too boomy or reverby. Definitely good enough for rehearsal. And I can always throw up all those cargo blankets if I want it to be more suitable for demo recording.

Just answered the question I was going to ask about the sound...great work on the room!

I've been pining after a Fibes kit after I missed out on one like 20ish years ago, then I found this one for a very reasonable price considering how much they're going for these days. Climate control was a must. There's a dehumidifier in there as well.

I guess I wasn't quite done. I put the blankets up on most of the walls, and added hooks for hanging guitars/basses on a more temporary basis. I also moved the PA mixer/amp to the back corner, which really opened up the room.
