LOL! Whatever you say :)

Not what I say. It is what you said. What antics. i've read people saying the words s*** f*** calling him egotist for dontating time here,. People called him arrogant because he believes in musical principles and doesn't believe in non musical ones. Even Steve baily came over here saying that nothing that berlin has said changed him mind about anything that berlin has said. Berlin ONLY TALKED about learning and improving in music. This must meant that bailey doesn;'t agree with musical things to work on and he took shots at berlin while doing so (berlin likes to fight and likes to win). All Berlin likes to do is to tell people to learn how to play better.

One time, after taking a lot of abuse here, berlin wrote a hard sarcastic paragraph, and then immediatalye owned it, saying that it wasn't his best moment. that it was a childish thing to do. I repeat the question to you and to others here who so bravely took shots at berlin behind his back. What antics are you talking about./

hmmm... if by one paragraph one time you mean a new thread every week, then maybe. I like jeff's playing for sure, but I sure wouldn't want to hang out with him.

everybody who I know who went to the Player's School of MUsic say that he is the nicest guy on Earth. Where are you coming from. I met him at the namm show and he took pictures with me, chatted for a minute, and was more gracious than Stu hamm or any rock bass player that I met at the show. Berlin is one of the THE nicest guys on Earth which is why I ams standing up for him over here. You don't know what you are talking about you really should find out before you make an opinion.

Ya got me. I probably should fess up and say that I am a players student. I know jeff so well and have improved my playing a million % since I started studying here. He is the BESt, and he knows so much about music. He used to come in and say that things were bumpy over on talkbass and I read the posts. So I decided to back him up I DID meet him at Namm, and I knew about him before I came. but, i suppose that people should know that I am familiar with him and took his side because I know him better than people over here do.

P.S. He doesn't know that I am backing him up or he would tell me to stop

Have no worries. Most of the people who go around dogging people out on forums are great at doing it while hiding behind a screen name.

They wouldn't say what they say if they had to use their real name or do it face to face.

Thank you for that. Maybe berlin needs some more like you over here. Joph Wentzien has been very decent as well.

I've done roadie work for jeff and he is one of the most loved musicians. They line up to meet him and get autographs and he is so great with lots of people. I just had to get over here to balance the scales a little bit for him because he won't do anything about this himself. He didn't believe that it was worth the time. Some guys are not fair and not very nice on talkbass. Even John Turner took a shot.

It is Saturday, Memorial day weekend and Jeff came in to open the players Schiool for a few of us who wanted to practice today. He took his saturday afternnon to let a couple of us have a place to play. This is the kind of guy that Jeff berlin is and I don't know why some habve problems with a guy who tells people to play better. What has he ever done except be intense about upgrading music. It don't make any sense to me.

jeff needs a roadie with those piddly little markbass combos that weigh 40 lbs each? ;)

i've had my ups and downs with the dude, but before he got banned, our relationship was very much up. bailey made a few minor shots, but he and jeff are very much friends, it seems. you don't have to agree with your friends about everything. and if you held a gun to jeff's head (not that i'm recommending it, mind you), he'd probably admit there's a grain of truth to it. still, he's one of the best out there, a big champion for higher musical education, and while maybe not the world's greatest communicator, he's done way more good than bad for music.

- People who throw the shots behind a keyboard deserve ... well, I can't say it here. Let's just say that they're my definition of weenies and cowards. I wish I could observe Jeff taking a couple of them into the ring.

- I don't know him personally, but I still know that Jeff is a good guy.

- This forum migrates too much from the music to the trash talk. Maybe it should be renamed TrashTalkBass. I wish a thread about Jeff Berlin's new music - could actually *remain* a thread about Jeff Berlin's new music. This other stuff is time-wasting crap.

In class, Jeff NEVER finds a negative with any of us. EVER! "You soloed nicely on those chord changes. now try to add the 3rd." "Your time is improving and your fills are in key. Now make sure that you quarter note is equal to your 8th notes." We all leave his classes feeling good about oursevles because we are all working on music.

In person, he is the best communicator. Check out one of his clinics to know how good he is. Maybe the written word isn't his strength, but nobody leaves his classes or ensembles without knowing then and there what to do to work on. He's the clearest voice of musical improvement, and I've known a few bonko teachers before I got to this schopol.

P.s JimmyM, Jeff likes you as well and once talked about you to us as a guy with a focus on what is musical. He called you"salty" because he says that he is salty as well.

P.S Yeah I carry his amps sometimes and once flew to L.A. to help him out. Those amps are small, but pack a huge sound.

yes, we're two salty old dudes...the difference being that jeff can whoop ass whereas i will always call for security like a big puss ;)

i like jeff too, and i'm sad he's gone. but even in the worst of times with him, i always believed that he was fighting the good fight and i hung on every word, even when i pretended i wasn't. glad your time with him at the player's school is going so well, dude.

and yes, i'm very familiar with the wallop of markbass amps. used to have an lmii and a mini cmd121p. would still have at least the lmii if i hadn't got my svt and b-15 all fixed up and had no desire to use anything else these days.

I've heard this time and time again. If I lived down there, I'd be at that school, one way or another.

SBassman said "Time and time again!" How thrilling. I knew that jeff and his school had a good a nd wide reputation.
The negative thoughts that some have about berlin really don't hold water. He says what he says, and in my experience, he ABSOLUTELY is never wrong about musical statements and I have witnessed this for months on end. I am no fool, I know when somone talks the talk, but berlin is AMAZING with all of us.

I am glad for jeff when guys like Jimmym, SBassman, or John Wentizen step up to say what a great guy Jeff is or what a great school that I study at. Those who put Berlin down, what has berlin ever done to cause such an anger from some of you. To those who know him, the negative statements just do not line up with the guy that I and others know.

I too wish that I could get to know him outside of TB. Although I have to admit I greatly enjoy watching him slice and dice all opponents. He is like the talkbass ninja! It is my hope to make it to the players school later this year, but finances will have to improve first!
re: the anger issue. What has anyone ever done to deserve the level of ranting that many on TB (or any online forum) seem to enjoy employing?Online forums are a natural dumping ground for the crap in people's heads, and a repository for injured egos. Jeff certainly has a talent for attracting opposition, and he won't be bullied-as such, people get PISSED!. In general, I think that anyone who dares have an opinion and defends it is going to be crucified.
I too wish that people would chill out, and calmly debate the issues at hand-whether it is to use a metronome or not, or whether P bass are better than J basses, there is no need to get all whacked out!

Jeff is doing what he does better than about anyone on the planet on this CD. He can tear through changes and Jazz Standards on Electric Bass better than anyone I've ever seen and create the most beautiful solos ever. The man's a true Master.
I have no patience, I downloaded it....
