Street prices would probably be around 20 to 25 percent down from those. Such pricing is not bad at all for a US made bass of good quality.

American Musical Supply is selling them at these prices:
$1689 for gold top
$1849 for cherry sunburst
$1559 for ebony
So it looks like street pricing is about 35% down from MSRP.
That's not bad at all (IMO). Of course, that may be too expensive for some folks, depending on their financial situation.
EDIT: AMS does not have them in stock yet. They are accepting "pre-sale" orders. I didn't see a date when they expect to get them in.

Being made in the USA is certainly a step in the right direction, but it does not guarantee quality. The only way to find out is to buy one and play it for a while, or wait and read reviews of others who buy one.

It has to be very similar to the last version which had a great cutting warm rock tone. These are super high output pickups. Check out the original thread for sound clips. The combination of Mahogany with the maple cap gives a fantastic rock tone.
PS plenty of room to add a neck pup. They sell them on Ebay for around $100.

Does anyone know what the lower bout measures on that new Gibson oversized Les Paul bass? I"ve looked at the specs on the company website and it isn't given. I don't want the guitar but I need a case for one of my Hagstrom Swede Basses, which looks the same, but the lower bout measures 14 1/2 inches and it's really hard to find a case that will fit.
With an oversized mahogany body, maple cap and mahogany neck, I would think it would weigh 12-14 pounds.
