New Les Paul Bass?

With an oversized mahogany body, maple cap and mahogany neck, I would think it would weigh 12-14 pounds.

Right! Possibly more. My Walnut Jazz is monstrously heavy, but the singer in my band has an LP guitar that weighs about the same. This would not be a lightweight bass to play. I bet it sounds good, though....:bassist:

I'd rock it...but only with a 5" wide cushioned strap and a chiropractors appointment.

The thing I dislike most about LP basses is the lack of pick guard. I wish they came with some modified version of the LP guard on them

I would so totally buy one of these except for one thing. Because of my right hand muting technique, I would keep jamming my pinkie finger into the upper right knob (looking at it from the front). The knobs are quite a bit behind the bridge on the guitars. That would be perfect for me if they were further back. Might have to try one out anyways.

I'd rock it, period. I had an LP Standard with a regular body and loved everything about it.

I love the shape and I'm glad they increased the size of the body to make the whole instrument look more proportionate. Having only 20 frets is a little bit of a let down but since balance is a major factor I'm guessing the decision for fewer frets was necessary.

However the tuners look like an afterthought...much like chrome Grover tuners do on older Les Paul guitars. Why would you go to all the trouble to cop the vintage appointments of an LP guitar and then use the tuning buttons from an '80's Ibanez?

I don't really like Gibson's basses. They just don't look right. The headstock if the thing that bothers me. I don't really like the sound you get from their basses either. IMHO I would stick with Fenders, Peavey, Warwick, Musicman, Rickenbacker, Ect.

This is a 1995 Les Paul from the custom shop.
The Gold Top and 21 frets were the custom features.

Bartolinis in this one and it sounds like rolling thunder.

I swear there is difference between the regular factory and custom shop gold. This has way more green in it. Baby Piss Gold.
