Hi there! Started playing bass at 18, in college. Had five lessons at local guitar shop after buying a POS beginner bass that wouldn't even hold tuning, playing through a half broken tube combo. Annoyed the neighbors and then upgraded to a 1972 Rick, bought my guitar-playing friend's voice of the theater folded horn speaker and a 100 watt solid state amp, joined a crappy college cover band. Upgraded again to a 300 watt Road Amp head with 18" cab. Figured if I can't play better, play louder. Continued with that set-up playing rock and some prog until marriage and work took me away and I donated my rig and bass to local music school after moving to CA. Wish I still had that Rick. Years later, after divorce, got a '90 Fender Jazz Plus and Ovation Acoustic Elite, And picked up an SWR Baby Blue 2 for a big discount because my friend knew the owner of SWR, Steve Raab, very nice guy. Stopped playing in '98, too busy, picked it back up 2 years ago after retirement. Now learning to play properly, thank you many instructors on YouTube. I still have that SWR amp, restoring it now. Cleaned pots, replaced tube, replacing original 8" Celestion speakers with 8" Eminence Alpha's, etc. Considered just going to a new amp but they sound thin in comparison to the SWR, or lack reliability, unless I'm willing to shell out big bucks. I play mostly jazz so do not need volume. Anyway, I am glad to be here, at 70 years of age, still learning, better than I ever thought I'd be but so far to go.
