New Member Has Question Fender Jazz

First of all, I'm a new member here and appreciate any serious feedback. I started playing bass back in 1979, but have been out of the loop for awhile in the Army. I am retired now. I bought a Takemine Jasmine last month to get back into playing. Yesterday I bought a Peavey TKO amp and it seems to be alright.

Today I met a guy selling a Fender Jazz 1980s based on the serial number (E301101). The pegkead says Made in USA. It has EMG pickups on it and a hard shell case, He wants 250 for it.Needs a good cleaning I remember the Jazz used to be a great bass. The neck is good.

Thoughts?

$250 is a steal if it's all it's cracked up to be. I would replace the pickups with stock Fenders or '62 RI if I bought it, but that's just me. Any way you can post pictures?

Thanks for the quick reply. I will post pics tomorrow after work. I called the guy a few mins ago and offered 225 and he took it. I will pick it up tomorrow. It is black w/a white pickguard. No significant scratches. It is missing 2 of the control knobs, but the knob shafts work.

Again I appreciate the quick feedback. Alot of these sites have smart A answers to serious questions. I love pickin and have stayed in touch a bit, but it is great to get back into the game.

With all the new stuff these days, I just wanted to make sure I was making a sound decision.

I've owned 2 jazz basses so far while in the air force, thinking about a 3rd soon! Love 'em!
