New member intro

Hello all.
I’m Paul from Georgia.
Almost 40 years ago, a couple friends left some gear, for storage, at an apartment I lived in. A roommate-friend wrote some songs. I used the stored gear, a peavey bass & combo amp, and began to accompany my buddy. I met a drummer through a mutual friend, we still play together. I’ve been happily infected by the music bug ever since.
My first bass, a 72 Rickenbacker served me well. I also loved a jazz bass I owned. 30 years ago, I bought a Kay upright & that has been #1, despite playing with some loud guitars.
Anywho, recently feeling some pain in my left thumb & decided to look for an alternative to the big boy.
My friend, Fatty from Asheville, recommended this site, so here I am!
Seems like a great community.

I’m not much of a gear head…
Very short! D’Addario made a custom set of strings for it.
I do love it. Very playable and fun to have within arms reach.
I have played guitar while my then, 10 year old, accompanied me on this little bass. The size is perfect for a kid. A little crowded for me to try and perform with, but I’ve done it. Sounds pretty nice amplified, IMO.

This Taylor is gorgeous ! I dig woods, especially fingerboard one. Great trio !

I had a '72 Rick exact same color as that, it was my first real bass, bought new in '72 in Chicago, donated to Cal Lutheran College Music School, Thousand Oaks, CA in '84. It was mint when I donated it. Stupid move on my part. Loved that Rick.

So cool & generous of you. Hopefully, it inspired many others.
During an inspired rehearsal circa ‘91, with hands clapping overhead, the bass slipped out of the strap, fell on my foot and fractured the headstock.
A reputable luthier glued it back together. I rarely play it, but the repair is still holding strong.

I was always worried about backing into something and breaking the neck on my Rick. Many people warned me that it was fragile. I now play Fenders or Fender clones, primarily, and you can break rocks with those basses with no worries.
