New member - my humble rig

Hey All,

Just joined to discuss bass gear etc. Here is my obligatory rig picture of my probably not very exciting but gets the job done rig. I'm not really a bass player, I have the amp and cab for my jam-partner and the p-bass for myself to learn on (I play lead guitar).
Amp and cab I bought for a whopping $125 several years ago. The p bass is a 2007 US standard.

Thanks guys for the kind welcome! I also just realized there is a dedicated new member forum, oops

Thanks for the compliments on my gear, it does sound good to my ears! Not as sexy as those tube powered Ampegs or Mesas, but for what I have into it, it's pretty loud. I bought the p bass because I'm a fan of Fenders and it's nice and simple for me to learn on.

I'm looking forward to learning from the many experts on this site.

That's a great first low end rig! I'll bet you're having a good time with it (I sure would). Come upgrade time, if it comes at all, the only piece you'll need to seriously upgrade is the amp head because that bass and cab will do you fine. Of course being a guitar player, too, you'll be bitching at yourself about "playing that part wrong."

Welcome to the rabbit hole.

First up, welcome to TalkBass and thanks for joining us. You’re among friend here.

I like your rig too. Can’t go wrong with a PB. That’s an excellent choice plus extra points for getting the real deal rught iut if the starting gate. Many of us started with far less an instrument to use than a real Fender. And the Fender Standards are nothing to feel humble about. They’re really good basses that some pros play by choice. A Peavey 4x10 plus a Behringer head is also more than adequate and giggable. So you’re in good shape on the equipment front.

I was just speaking to my godson yesterday. He’s a Berkelee graduate who’s now out in CA doing studio work and just recently also running his own recording studio. He, like you, is a guitarist by trade. And a truly excellent one as well. He gets more work offers than he can accept.

He told me he’s been getting a lot more calls to play bass lately. And he’s discovering that he really enjoys the freedom that comes when you’re playing bass as opposed to guitar since you’re less constrained by the melody line. He also finds himself enjoying the deeper connection it has with the drum lines.

This made me laugh. Because he used to feel playing bass was boring. But now that he's doing more of it he’s started to get “that thing about playing bass” that fuels the passion and drive of us here on TB.

Looks like you’re finding some of that magic too.

So welcome aboard. Don’t be a stranger.:)
