primarily a Guitarist,I also play bass, and own a Squire Jazz, and have just Aquired my late best friend Eddie's Ultra rare Hayman 50/50 From another old friend, that I managed to track down, who had bought it from my bestie, when he had bought his Overwater, which I also wanted to Aquire,as a memory of Ed,but unfortunately had been Dumped,as it was In bits, and the other chap that had that, never got around to fixing up.
I had known My ol pal Eddie Smith, since we were 6,we were pretty well inseparable, and at 13,some 44 years ago,,we started Playing guitars, learning from each other, and Painstakingly learning from Vinyl,we each bought a cheap Avon made Gibson copy from my aunts Catalogue,I had a Les Paul,he an Eb3,as we progressed,we upgraded our Instruments,I ended up with a 75 Strat,he got this amazing Hayman.
I married young, and he went on to tour with bands,we kept in touch, but I'm not sure which year he Sold the Hayman to a pal,and got the Overwater,I imagine about 1983,ish,as when I split and Joined the band on two tours in 86,he'd had it a while.
His drinking had got worse, and no one could pull him out of it,he was a tormented soul, and Packed up playing as he had to stay out of pubs,in around 1995,sold his overwater to another friend,as it had been damaged by his frustrated girlfriend.
In 2001 he passed away of meningitis,as his Liver and immune system were shot to bits, and he had no defence.
I always wanted to aquire either at least one or both his old basses,as he has a daughter, and when she is out of her partying phase,I had the idea of presenting one to her on her birthday, but by the time I found out who had the guitars, the overwater had been dumped, and the chap with the Hayman had dropped out of the circle of friends, until last week, when he appeared on Facebook,I immediately got in contact, and he was only to happy to relinquish for a good cause.i am goi g to have it refurbished a bit,but it amazingly still works !!!!
