After a long time of thinking about it, I finally bought my first bass today. It's supposed to be here 'early next week'. Can't wait to get my hands on it.

I played keyboard in a couple of bands doing 60's/70's rock, rhythm & blues, some originals, & covers. About 10 years ago I owned a bass and messed around with it for a while but never played live with it. Trumpet has been my main instrument until recently but I'm having to hang up the horn because of some physical issues.

I borrowed a friend's bass and acoustic a couple of months ago and I've found I really like playing bass and it's a great fit for me to keep playing.

After reading this forum for a while I've decided to jump in and join.

I hope to learn as much as possible and also share with this great group of TB bassists.

Edited for clarity. ...It's hard to explain why someone like me would become a 'new' bass player at this point in their life. Hopefully you'll understand that just playing music in itself is very rewarding.

Welcome! I am coming back to playing bass after about 5 years of taking a "siesta". I don't think that there is any wrong point in anyone's life to do what you want to do. (Something like that!)

I really understand the "something like that". I'm happy you have woken up from your siesta and back to making music again.

I'm happy to keep waking up from my siestas and continuing to make music. That reminds me of what each day we have really means.

THE wife and I discussed this today. We both need something to do, beside TV, and bingo. We as most know are now in the HOME.

Tried to get a "band" started, but, no one here is interested, most have never played anything but piano and that was 70 to 80 years ago. The ones that still play are heavy on the bass clef, and the music they play is not what I want to play. So....

I decided to give the ole 6 string guitar, tuned to open G a try. My fingers are not doing what I ask them to do right now so open G and a barre may be the answer. Sitting on our balcony strumming away Point of my post. Music can be played for the rest of our live, good luck with coming back to the bottom end.
