Welcome to Talkbass, where the beauty of the basses is only exceeded by the people who play them. Or maybe it’s the other way around. I forget.

I was laughing about something I was reading here the other day, and my wife asked “What’s so funny?”. I replied “I’m reading a post on Talkbass, and…” when she interrupted “Stop! Sorry I asked.” And went back to ignoring me. :roflmao:

Hey: she just doesn't realize what she's missing.............or maybe she does...

Hi guys, new member here. I've referred to Talk Bass for years getting info on gear and have just officially registered. I just pulled the trigger on a 1997 Fender Precision Bass Special, Burst w/ RW FB, and wanted to see if anybody has had one. It should be arriving in a week or so.....JB neck w/ PB body. Hopefully I'll dig it.....
If it's a '97 Fender Precision Bass Special California series . I have had one since new . Paint work was done in Mexico assembly USA . Serial # starts with AMX . Killer bass .I have beat it up and never has it failed . Neck on mine is solid . I've used as a mod platform .

OP, welcome to TB. Hope you enjoy the new bass. I think the Specials are PJ's right ? Lots of conversations about PJ's here, and per the usual flow, plenty of strong opinions.

Is this your first bass or do you have others to talk about. Is there some specific reason you went for a PJ vs a std P or J ? just curious.

enjoy!

hi pfschim, i'm a pbass player..... the only jazz bass i've ever had was a '93 mij jbass, which i really liked but sold it a few years ago due to the fact i just never played it.....always went to my pbass first. right now my #1 bass is a 2020 ampro2, it's my favorite bass i've ever played. i just thought this pbass special was cool having a j neck on a p body, and i was looking for a rosewood fb.....my pbass has a maple fb.

thanks for all the nice welcome here on TB

Welcome to the board! Looking forward to pics of your new bass.

I have a late 90’s MIA PJ with a RW FB that is an incredible instrument. It’s been my go to bass for the last 17 years. I’ve played a lot of PB’s over the years made in just about every decade since they’ve been made. For my money, the “N” series were some of the nicest, playable, and sounding PBs ever made.

Congrats on your new bass!
Enlightenment please! What is an "N" Series Precision Bass? Of course there's tons of info online about Precision Bass, but I didn't see anything specifically referring to an "N" Series PB. TIA!

Welcome to the group, where every new bass is "The best bass I've ever played!"

I guess you will have to find one and play one. Being honest, I knew nothing or cared about specific series of PBs before I snagged on to this one. it’s just as this happens to be a really good instrument, and the best sounding most playable PB I’ve ever laid my hand on. My son has the next series, and it’s not nearly as nice of an instrument.

Funny you are asking me about N series. Back in the mid 90’s I bought a brand new Stratocaster. Shortly after, I took it to a Fender road show, one of these deals where you show up you get a new set of strings and a pro set up by a Fender tech. Anyway the tech told me to hang on to it, it’s one of the better stock Strats Fender ever made.

We just moved about six months ago and yesterday took my guitar out of the case for a to inspect it. When I was wiping it down, I noticed it’s an N series as well.

Thanks! I'm always up for new info!

So are you saying your Strat (or any N series Fender) has an "N" in the serial number?

Fender made N series instruments in the 90s is all I know. I happen to have two of them.

Being honest, I wasn’t looking specifically for them because of the series. It was because I though they were better instruments than what I was used to seeing out of Fender for the prior 25-30 years of production.

"When I was wiping it down, I noticed it’s an N series as well."

So how did you determine that? Something other than the serial number?

Are all Fender instruments that were made in the 1990s, and only those, considered N series?

Not trying to be a pest - just trying to get a handle on exactly what "N" series means, since I've never heard of it before.:)
