New Mesa/Boogie Fathom Amp

Cool! Might this be the 'simple' MPulse600 some of us have been asking for? I hope so. True 2 or 4ohm operation (600 watts). Nice!

Edit: Man, do I hate the Mesa marketing descriptions. Can't they just tell us what the thing sounds like... is it designed for a more clean tube tone or a growly snarl like the BB750, etc. All this 'will make the sea of low end blossom in your ears' makes me crazy!

and....interesting that they moved away from the 'simul-state' thing, using just one 12ax7. I wonder what impact that would have on the tone... more SS versus the very tubey feel of the other MPulse line... interesting. I wonder if this is voiced more toward the Eden side of things.... more SS with a touch of tube versus the simul-state models that to my ear try to get the most classic tube type tone out of a hybrid design.

VOICE FEATURE:
Powerful 5 position VOICE control gives you all the power of a parametric EQ without the fuss. VOICE allows instant selection of four distinctly different EQ curves and Bypass. Choose position 1 or 2 that cuts midrange in two different frequencies for the ultimate warm, scooped R&B vibe. The combo is 4ohm standard, but you can order an 8ohm to use another cab, thats pretty cool.

I have bought 2 300W combos in the past that wernt. They were ~180W combos that would put out more power with an ext cab. Tbh Im still a little bitter. :)

it looks pretty cool , but from the explanations on their site, I cant tell what the hell this thing is supposed to do/sound like!
hell, I like my m-pulse more by the day!its like fine tuning a car, every little tweak makes all the difference and I like that!
but on the other hand, GAS is terminal!:D

Looks pretty sweet, and since IMO, Mesa has always had great results from their bass gear, it's a nice addition.

Personally, I never found the eq on the M-Pulse to be complex-it's a very responsive parametric eq with a nice wide range available. Besides reconfiguring the preamp on the Fathom, it seems they've selected "Q" points, which make it more plug-and-play. Also, I think the ultra-low feature probably does a good job of scooping mids and getting a phat low end.
As far as Mesa product descriptions- well, eventually you have to PLAY it to see if it's right for you. Sound clips are basically meaningless to me, they won't define what I'll sound like, and descriptions mean very little, other than defining the features and specs they very adequately describe.

I'D love to see Mesa also produce a next-generation D-180 type all-tube head; something down a notch from the Monster 400+, say a 200-watt all-tube head.
The BUSTER was awesome; I still use a 2x10 wedge combo version, and it stll outperforms just about anything else tone-wise.

Good to see that Mesa's mixing it up a little with their bass products.

Exactly.

Is it in the M-Pulse line? The Big Block? Kinda lost.

I see that they've changed the pre-amp, and employ only (1) 12AX7A, so that changes the voicing a bit.

Now, I'd STILL need to hear this amp with ME!!! playing through it! I've heard sound clips on many different mfrs. sites, inc. gear I use, but...It's not going to define how I play!!!

It's a nice looking unit. Mesa is offering a variant of both the M-Pulse and BB rigs. That's all; it's NEW!

Would a "Sound clip" offer that?
How?

The clips I've heard on G&L eg don't define my sound.

I'll bet that the amp sounds EXACTLY like a ...
MESA FATHOM!!!

And it will sound......

The way it was designed to reproduce the bass guitar, dependent on the speaker cab used, and the way the Bassist employs his/her gear, and how they approach the instrument.

I'm not in the market, but the only way to answer the ? of how the amp sounds would be to get one's azz down to where one is and give it a whirl.

If you haven't realized I'm just giving you a hard time by now, it's gonna be a LONG afternoon! :D

I've yet to play a Mesa amp I don't own or want to own, so I'm not worried.
